The artist world is already becoming suspicious 
Artists are having to defend their own art, saying it’s not AI. And we have to take their word for it. I think it’s sad that they’re having to do that now. We’ve never doubted them before.

That’s true.
It should be used as a tool and nothing else. But to what extent? When a teacher uses AI to correct student papers, are they cheating at their job or just using a good tool? What about when a student uses AI to write a college essay? Is that used as a tool or a cheating device?
I feel like AI is just so broad. You can basically do anything with it. Not like smartphones where the purpose is to communicate. AI is being used for everything, everywhere. So when it comes to how it’s used, it’s like “the limit does not exist” (sorry, I saw the opportunity and had to say it).

Let us be clear that AI technically doesn’t exist. It is rudementary machine learning. In that case you need to revise the standards for what unauthorized assistence on assignments are.

The only way I would use it is if I had a severe physical disability that prevents from writing fiction like most people and getting my creative thoughts around like most people.

Exactly! I used to think the people in this forum were posting their own work in the Show Your Art thread. Then I found out most of them were using tablets, so I muted the thread. One of the definitions of art is that it has to be made with human hands–a beautiful sunset cannot be a work of art. The problem is that using AI for writing books or drawing pictures isn’t like using a calculator for doing math. A calculator can only help a human, whereas AI has the capability for replacing them. Or will someday. Amazon recently had to impose a new rule about uploading self-published books because there are jerks using AI to write whole novels and flooding the site with garbage books. Greedy, selfish people are going to ruin a good thing for all of us if we don’t find a way to rein them in. (╥︣﹏᷅╥)
And that’s my alarmist opinion for today. (♯^.^ღ)

First heard of ChatGPT and the like from streamers using it for entertainment, like having it write silly/nonsensical stories or have it make funny images
Recently, however, a professor in one of my courses encouraged the use of ChatGPT to do an assignment. As in, the instructions were to log in, give it the prompt to write a job description for our dream job, and post the results as-is.
Admittedly I’ve used it for funsies, for help in an assignment, and even to brainstorm story titles. However, I do encourage not copying the results and passing it off as your own work, especially on schoolwork (and the AI can be inaccurate sometimes) and creative things. I’ve heard there’s already tools to help detect whether an essay was written by a human or an AI (not foolproof since its new, but it exists). Then there’s all the trouble of copyright and AI plagiarizing artwork (which I believe needs more regulation, like what Amazon did with AI stories as I’ve heard).
I think we’ll see more regulation or maybe laws regarding AI as the technology becomes more widely used. So I hope. I think it’s a useful tool for certain tasks, and could be used as an aid, but it shouldn’t be a replacement for human-made art or stories.

If anyone has seen the film Her, I’m somewhat confident we’ll have that level of AI-software / AI Assistant in two years or less…I haven’t seen the whole film yet, just small segments…

My dad’s a professor and he encourages his students to use ChatGPT when doing assignments. I don’t know how he assess if they’ve learned anything or not. He lets them use it on essays.
But the assignment you talked about is like testing ChatGPT. The point of the assignment is to see what it can do. I think that’s okay. It becomes suspicious when students use it to write full essays.
When you go on places like Fiverr, there’s “AI artists” now and you pay hundreds to get someone make you AI art…which I wouldn’t call “art”
How does this work? You just give it a bunch of story titles?

I saw it! It was such a weird movie, but I also felt like we’re not so far away from that kind of reality. Which made the watching experience even weirder You should watch the whole thing to see what happens at the end though. I wasn’t so sure about that end…

I’m sure there’s different ways, what I did was give it prompts like “Suggest story titles for a novel where [insert summary here]” or “suggest titles for story that has [insert themes, tropes, genres, etc.]” and it’ll give a list. From there I pulled the words and phrases I liked most and developed from there on my own.
