~ ***** a fox chat ***** ~ [Now: What are you obsessed with right now?]

Thank you!

Oh I have the complete opposite reaction over here; it’s about 4 degrees C in Chicago, and I feel like it’s too warm :joy: I came here for the snow and was sad to see that it had long melted  it’s going to climb to 12 degrees too, which is basically t-shirt weather

On the bright side, it should snow and dip back into the negatives by this weekend!

I am really considering a short vacation to Spain myself because I’m sick of the lack of Vitamin D, and the general dreariness here  Or I’ll even settle for Southern England or a few days when the weather gets better and its warmer. I went last year in August and it was nice.

Believe it or not, this is completely normal for us :joy: But yes, the changes do a number on the body which is a tad inconvenient

it certainly seems so XD

oh that really is so cold, even the AC at 20°C has me all bundled up and complaining! my current weather is about upwards of 30°C, but it’ll get much hotter in the afternoon! we had a bit of a lower temp, about monsoon season rains and whatnot, towards the end of december but now it’s pretty mild. i’m hoping the weather holds out for the vacation.

oof all the best! i think that’s one thing i really like about being a student; not having to work. σ( ̄、 ̄〃) i worked full-time a bit before heading into uni while waiting for results and i admittedly did not enjoy it, even though it was a remote job, or perhaps because it was a remote job. i’d still take assignments and whatnot over working, it’s just the examinations that bother me. XD

Topic: Who are you? (to your characters)

This isn’t a serious philosophical question. And you must talk about your characters and their identity.

The story I’m going to be working on next week is about identity and belonging.

Basically, Bethany is in the wrong crowd. She’s in a friend group who are wannabe popular girls. But Bethany isn’t a tough girl like she plays out to be. She doesn’t like breaking the rules. She doesn’t like talking down to the quiet girl in the friend group.

Then she’s dared to date one of the unpopular kids and make him ask her out to prom. She pretends to be interested in him and that she was actually somewhat of nerd like him. And she feels like she might actually like him. But then he asks her out to prom in front of her friends and the gig is up.

He says “so you lied to me about who you are. who are you?”. She tries to explain but he storms off. Seeing her trying to explain and get him back, her friends say, who are you? (as in, he’s not even in your league and you need to uphold your status, what are you doing?)

Bethany is also from a wealthy home where her mother is into method acting and constantly makes Bethany play along, sometimes without warning. So, Bethany is always conflicted with who she is and what she likes. It especially hits her in the head when she finds something from her childhood that she doesn’t remember much about–a magical bracelet with her name on it.

And then she starts turning into a rat, so, yeah, who are you, Bethany? :stuck_out_tongue:

It can be any little or big thing or whatever you want. I want to know what’s enjoyably consuming your life right now.

Me? Pokemon cards, but cheaply. I love the art ones.

I meant to answer this earlier but forgot :sob:

but here's the answer if you're curious!

This is the perfect question to ask my character, Edin! He’s the protagonist of my current writing project, Blood Will Tell. He’s an amnesiac who was left for dead in the middle of nowhere at the age of 21. Luckily for him, he was rescued by Arden, the realm’s strongest guardian, when she happened to stumble upon his dying body. He doesn’t remember anything about himself or his past aside from his name and age. As of now, he’s still trying to figure out who he is

For the first third of the book, Edin sees himself as Arden’s protégé, a person with a duty to protect the realm (since he’s a gifted)… and a monster when he loses control on the battlefield, because it turns out that he not only has an amnesia curse, but a second curse that makes him extremely bloodthirsty :skull:

I’m currently in the second part of the book (and nearly two-thirds done), which explores his independence. He still doesn’t have a firm idea of who he is yet. But on the bright side, he managed to discover pretty important pieces of his past and find out about his mother’s side of his family! But on the dark side, he also found out that the sorcerer who’s been terrorizing the realm and almost tried to kill him… is also his biological brother :sob:

It doesn’t help that he’s also the subject of rumors, some of which he can’t confirm or deny, simply because he himself doesn’t know the answer. Poor guy.

So, who is Edin? For now, he’s content being a guardian who tries to do the right thing even if he can be very violent. As for the rest of that, he’s still searching for the answers :see_no_evil:

Oooooh I honestly don’t know, I haven’t had a huge obsession since the year started. I guess it didn’t help that I disagree with the current Hell’s Kitchen season’s black jacket brigade  I can’t believe Henry didn’t make it :sob:

I will say that I’ve listened to The Phantom of the Opera soundtrack more lately. I finally got to see it live in a theater last week—after re-watching the movie a couple days prior—and it was AMAZING! And I’ve forgotten how good the songs are, I’ve been humming the tunes to myself lately :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

I would also say I’m a bit obsessed with how my book’s going, but I don’t wanna sound egotistical :see_no_evil:

I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed with anything right now except the book I’m writing–have you ever fallen in love with your own characters? I suppose that happens to every writer at some time or other, but this is the first book (series) in which it’s happened to me.

If there’s a second place fixation, I’d say it’s watching YouTube videos of the late night comedians Trump has targeted–Stephen Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyers, and The Daily Show. Also becoming fascinated with Channel 100 News with Evie and Happy Pancake, and their takes on the Trump administration. Can’t bear to watch the news anymore, but I can take it in comedic form or short deep dives into specific aspects. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯

Gotten back into Percy Jackson. Thank you Disney+ :joy: My constant nerding seems to have rubbed off because I’ve now gotten my dad into the books and he wants to watch the series  I wouldn’t go so far as to call it an “obsession” but it’s probably the closest thing

The Phantom of the Opera at the moment :joy:

The main theme has been stuck in my head for 3 days now, but I cant stop looking up different versions of the song

I also watched the 25th anniversary performance recording yesterday

GIRL LITERALLY SAME

Watched the recording of the 25th anniversary performance a few days ago too :eyes: what are your thoughts? Personally I wasn’t a huge fan of Chris Hadley’s performance of Raoul :sob: but I thought the rest of the actors were pretty good! I especially liked Sierra Boggess as Christine!

Oh, and related to that, are you also going to catch a live performance? There’s a production touring North America at the moment, and I preferred it to the 25th anniversary performance!

Have you read the original novel yet?

Also there is a bootleg musical version that was made in Flordia lol.

Honestly it was amazing! I thought Hadley’s Raoul was ok, but agreed that his performance wasn’t quite hitting right for me, sadly  And YES she was an amazing Christine!

I wiiiiish

My hope is to catch them live when I happen to travel to the states, or, even better, if there’s ever a production that goes to Puerto Rico!

Heard of the original, haven’t read it yet! Might get to that…one of these days, on top of everything else I want to read :joy:
