🤯 Any other AI art addicts here? 🤯

Midjourney keeps improving. Every time I think I’m done with it, they release a new version that’s even better. When character references came out, I redid a lot of previously created characters to be able to use them as references. Then I earned some extra credits for doing a survey and did a ton of experiments.

For example, It did great recreating one of the more complex images I’ve tried before.

I’m out of credits now and I’m going to have to cancel my subscription for a while. I’m wrapping up current project. I got plenty of images for what I needed. I likely won’t ā€œneedā€ more until I’m working on graphics for a new project which will be a while.

But the addiction is still strong. Just one more variation, just one more keyword change, one more experiment…

Here are some random experiments to honor the fun I’ve had with this tool.

I went in a more cartoony direction, not bad, just that the furt and the skin are the same color lol.

old thread resurrection

I was curious if video generators have gotten any better. Searching for video ai brings up A LOT of websites. It seems that everyone has an ai startup nowadays.

Maybe it doesn’t belong on this list but Videobolt looks quite cool for creating promos from templates. They don’t advertise as AI, but clearly some of their templates use it. But not all. Some are just simple add your text/logo/image to a template.
Generating previews is free and unlimited as far as I can tell, but to get the quality download, you have to get a paid plan.
I’m a bit torn if I would invest in it. While their templates look really cool, there are limits how you can customize them. I think if I looked to spend money, I’d like something that gave me more control.

I found one AI tool that shows a lot of potential.
Superstudio/Kaiber (I don’t know why all of these have multiple names).
This one is pretty incredible. It combines multiple tools in one and gives you a canvas to keep track of your workflow. From image generations to style transfer to video and branding - it has it all and it’s easy to use. Sadly, there is no free tier - it says that there is but I created an account and got no credits so… In any case, there isn’t much you can do with 50 credits since one video consumes at least 35…
So I haven’t been able to test the quality of its models. But it’s one to keep an eye on.

Minimax/hailuo is one of the video generators that Superstudio uses so I wanted to try it directly. They give a good number of credits to play with for free so I was able to test a bit. Generating from text is no good so I tried a few old mj images as starting points.
I put a few of the best videos I created with it in this Canva video (warning: there’s a bit of blood and disturbed looks).

Pretty cool but takes a lot of tries to generate something of good quality. Some of them were creepy (not in a good way) or ridiculously funny. In the Canva video, see the last creepy/demented clip? That’s the mildest of the weird ones.
And it seriously struggled to create good vampire fangs, resulting in grotesque visuals but that seems to be a general problem with all models.

I tried Runway again. I wasn’t impressed with their early video models, but that was a while ago, and I was curious how it’s progressed.
I used the same starting images I tested in Minimax, and whoa. Runway quality is far superior.
I don’t know if Runway image generators are good but if you feed it a good quality image, the video stays true to it (most of the time).
Here’s a simple runway clip (started from an mj image). The face and the style remain perfectly consistent.

I was curious how it would handle a real photo so I used my Taboo as the test subject.
Not bad. It’s almost real. Unfortunately, it didn’t generate the movement I asked of it (I tried a couple of times to get her to blink her eyes or for the pupils to contract).

This was using their turbo model. They have another model that’s for paid subscribers only. Maybe that one delivers an even better quality.

They also have a lip sync feature. The voices are limited, unfortunately. I tried to get Taboo to say ā€œDid you say… chicken?ā€ but it failed so I guess cat closeups are not good for it.
But the human videos generated with it work.

I ran out of credits, but so far, I definitely saw potential to create something cool.
