Are there genres or scenarios you like watching in film, but don't have the courage to write?

Crime, mystery, thriller, espionage and action.

Oooh, thanks for the recs! I’ll check them out. As for what’s scary, I would say yes, it’s largely the suspense and of course having bad dreams and disturbing thoughts about the book after you’ve finished it. Like a scary movie keeps me from sleeping for days afterward, and I have to keep a light on all night for a few days. I want a book that’s as scary as a horror movie. I mean, I don’t want it, but I want to know what techniques they use to scare readers with just words on a page. ヘ( ´Д`)ノ

A child protagonist.

:joy:

I would really not take that serious, or I would make them really weird.

If anyone’s interested, The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson is on sale today on the main site, so you might want to buy it while the price is reduced. I don’t know the links for other countries, unfortunately. I’ve heard this one is really scary, so we’ll see. (>‿◠):v:

@alcoholandcaffeine @DollyTH You guys reminded me that I actually did try to write sci-fi in middle school. Idk if it’s sci-fi at all though XD

Nothing is explained and it’s wild.

There’s this girl called Two. She’s a leader of a gang made up of her best friend Jarid and a crazy doctor called Doctor Lorkhead who is always screaming with excitement. Their gang, Two Three, deals with weird and supernatural phenomena that happen on Earth.

I was influenced by Spy Kids and I loved the idea of a secret gang of kids with a wacky doctor saving the world :stuck_out_tongue:

The story used to be called Two Three.

It’s on Wattpad, actually :stuck_out_tongue: Two and the Last Year on Earth as the new title. I did end up continuing it very slowly over the course of about 5, 6 years and finally finished it after I started posting on Wattpad. Now it’s supposedly more sci-fi with time travel, post-apocalyptic Earth, and aliens. Two isn’t human.

The original cast remains. Even the Eagle King that appears as the first villain of the book which I created in middle school.

Yeah, there’s an Eagle King who has to be distracted by a robot Eagle lady while Two goes through with her plan to take him down.

Yeah it’s weird. It still is XD

There’s ways to write science fiction more easily:

5 peices of tech that you personally cant fix, that are curee tly difficult to fix.
5 pieces of tech they say we will have soon almost no tech support for them either.
Most jobs are going to automation, the displaced often dont have the capacity to understand the tech jobs, silicone valley has imploded (it sort of has already).

Just plunk a clueless person down in the middle of that, and the hardships they find with the tech, how they reconnect to people without tech, etc.

We already do some of this. Covid was a huge breakdown of society in a lot of places. We have personal experience with isolation due to things being taken from us.

There’s a lot of science fiction that deals solely with current issues–just in a skin of futurism to ignore that its really our lives.

I love how you embraced its oddity! :joy: But that sounds cute! I love when writers take something they wrote when they were young and remake it when they’re older, I think it shows growth.

We’ve already got 1 nut getting ready to eventually try out direct brain links with the internet. It’s coming. Can’t wait until my subconscious connects to the dark web when I have a nightmare, let me tell you. Wind up getting arrested for trafficking .
