I was stalking this thread while thinking about what a backstory actually even means (not just for a single character, but for the storytelling meta as a whole) lol.

Outside of some historical context, we don’t really have a lot of concrete reasoning for Akagi’s behavior. In the anime, he doesn’t even have an internal monologue.

So I think that it doesn’t really count for backstory.

It doesn’t sound like it. I’ll confess: I haven’t watched and/or heard of this anime, but what you’ve described doesn’t sound like a backstory, yeah. Moreso characterization, no?

I may need to dm you to fully explain my thoughts on this particular aspect of the series. But Akagi basically has no backstory.
