I actually think that your story might be a similar example to the one I used above (Call me by your name) in that this story isn’t about what happens but what changes.

Can you rewrite the beginning and the ending when focusing exactly on that?

Solid reply. Legally Blonde is another example of a story with a midpoint goal shift (Elle realizes she’s never getting Warren back, so she decides to prove her worth by applying herself in her classes). Despite the shift, it’s still easy to draw a line between the shallow girly-girl who applies to Harvard Law to get her boyfriend back, and the young lady who uses her newly acquired education in conjunction with her niche knowledge of fashion to save a grieving widow from a wrongful murder conviction.

(Legally Blonde is my go-to for plot structure, lmao).
