Mythic Fantasy? It’s more like a fairytale than anything else.
Ooh. That is a very interesting time period. But I meant to ask which fantasy subgenre do you like reading and writing, along the veins of high fantasy, low fantasy, epic fantasy, grimdark, satirical, etc.
Ooh that certainly is interesting!
Whatever Overlord is supposed to be is probably my favorite. It’s kind of a Dark Fantasy but it’s also funny.
Well, it’s all a tossup because if it has that time period, I’m like to red them all. But if you want a good feel for where I personally stand, Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series is my favorite fantasy.
Science-Fantasy is amazing because it is the best of both worlds science-fiction and fantasy.
Ooh, it looks like dark, high fantasy, I think. But subgenres are surely tricky to get right for genre bends.
Ah that makes sense! That is an interesting time period!
Oh yes, it is! Do you like steampunk stuff, too?
Steampunk is alright, but I am not that huge of a fan of it.
Sorry.
Zombie horse sounds really cool what about a skeletal horse. I’ve seen something like that before and it looks cool too.
Tell me about your magic system. How does it work? What is it based off of? What are its’ limits?
The magic sytem in my current book is based on the concept of a ‘river’ of life, called Grace. Grace flows in and out of every living being, and is almost omnipresent in the world around them. Any place with less/ no Grace feels like it’s hard to breathe in.
Grace can be manipulated to do almost anything, and the only limit is how much you’re used to manipulating Grace, as if you try to use too much at once, you will drain out and overexert yourself. Sort of like lifting weights. You can build your tolerance of Grace to whatever you want

Urban Fantasy is really fun, but they keep on relying on tropes I personally hate.
Type 1 Mages: are able to wield mage craft freely. They aren’t all about going to educational institutes to learn how to properly manage their powers. What these mages do is self teach themselves how to properly control and wield mage craft without being tied down by rules.
Type 2 Mages: they learn how to develop their mage craft powers by studying and learning through teaching means. They treat mage craft as a way that they must learn through many years of schooling and being taught by a pro.
Type 0 Mages; They steal from the other mages and can make the stolen power apart of them forever. They don’t need to self teach themselves how to properly control and wield the power or go through years of schooling. They just steal the power and can use it to suit them. Unfortunately, their limit is five powers that they can only steal. If they try to steal more than five, their bodies wouldn’t be able to handle it. Yet at the very same time they are able to give by the mage craft that they stole back to the person or someone else. However, Type 0 Mages are able to perfectly summon other mages from
I have no idea which magic system that are based on.
However, you can ask me more questions and I try my best to answer.
Are there mages who may not have access to schooling?
Also, it looks like being a type 1 or type 2 mage is a choice more so than something inherent?
There are different types of schooling for Type 2 Mages. Some affordable one and ones that aren’t affordable.
Type 1 Mages don’t need schooling because they teach themselves that also applies to Type 0 Mages who steal powers from Type 1 & 2 Mages.
The way mana flows into a Type 2 Mage is very different than a Type 1 Mage.
Only Type 2 Mages receive schooling unlike Type 1 and 0.
Not really, it’s because of the mana flow in the world and how it affect everyone differently.
Pretty much Avantica (formerly Alterra), over abundance of mana greatly affect who you are. No two people are the same in that aspect and because of this the mana flows differently in different people
It also depend where you live too.
Some countries have a higher or lower density of mana flow. So, the higher the flow, the chance are you will become a Type 2 Mage. Whereas the lower will become a Type 1 Mage or Type 0.
That is best as I can describe it.
(NOTE TO SELF: I need to jot this down so I can remember this for later. LOL!)
Magic system in the TriRealm Universe used to be a bit of a mystery to me. I figured I’d start small and build up from there and in the end, I think that strategy worked. Though I’ve been writing in this world for 3 years now, only recently I cracked the magic system and I’m very happy with it.
It all came together when I asked myself a series of Why’s regarding the main story.
Why has the villain chosen MC?
What does the villain want? What’s their macguffin?
How can they get it from MC?
Why can’t they get it from someone else?
This led me to realize that it worked against me that I initially imagined that anyone can do magic. Magic skills are much more valuable when only few can do it (like my MC). This clarified for me that the villain simply wants money and my MC is a tool for that plan. With this simplification, it was much easier to continue figuring out how to fix my story.
So for the magic system, I decided that only demons or cambions (part-demons) can cast runes (which is how magic is conjured/executed in this world). But then I asked myself, why?
And through more Why’s, I landed with the origin story of not only magic but the entire universe!
This exercise gave me the understanding of how the magic works: runes are essentially a divine language but demons were given only limited knowledge of it so they’ll never execute divine-levels of magic.
There are a lot of defined limitations to what magic can do. It’s really more like a tool of convenience than anything else. You have to get creative to make something impressive with it and this makes magitech that much more sensible in this world. There’s no “spell” to do your household chores, but power a machine with magic and it will do the hard work for you.
Yes! I wrote one in this style and it’s quite fun. Anything is possible when you’re writing about gods.
What mythos did you choose?
I wrote about Cailleach Bheurra (Beira), the Queen of Winter in Gaelic mythos. It’s also my villain pov book (she’s the villain) and that was fun to write.
That sounds really cool and I love it that you called it grace.
I just made my own.
I tend to like a hard magic system, not necessarily because I’ll write it that way in every book, but you don’t confuse the mechanics of magic by writing meticulously.
Have I missed any other questions, being out?
