Yeah it was the biggest contributing factor as to why I haven’t written in a long time. But a story has been bugging me for a while now and so I want to try again. I’m just rusty and due to the situation did lose a lot of confidence in myself.
Honestly, what they did was predatory and I’m not the only one Wattpad screwed over that way.
Yeah it was a while ago so I don’t remember much names either. I’m sooo bad at names.
Setting takes place on an Earth after a dimensional rip that causes otherworldly monsters to pour into our world. Monsters can’t be seen in sunlight so most of humanity has run underground in tiers. Our main character lives at the bottommost tier and is connected with a criminal underworld. One day an accident happens on the surface that kills her sister and lover and nearly kills her and she strikes a deal with a creature called the Corpse King – her life and the life of her sister and lover in return for six lives of his choice she must kill himself.
It’s more of a post-apocalyptic fantasy or steampunk fantasy/sciece fantasy than traditional fantasy. Like, it’s not sci-fi-y enough for me to label it sci-fi but it’s definitely not traditional fantasy. I I could compare it to anything it’s be the TV show Arcane which is science fantasy/steampunk fantasy. But mine is more post-apocalyptic than steampunk.
I love the idea of a dimensional rip. You can do so much with that! How did it happen, why did it happen, and will it ever be closed? (rhetorical questions) So much great mystery surrounding something like that
Also, sounds like a cool fantasy mix. I like steampunk! Would you call it dystopian fantasy at all?
Yeah! It’s a lot to explore! Where did these beings come from? Why did they came? Why did the dimensional rip halt the seasons? Why does night as we know it no longer exist! Lots of juicy worldbuilding.
Hmmm, I’m not entirely sure if I’d use the term dystopian. There is a ‘humans are bastards’ element and some social problems in the Tiers because of the class stratification but there’s very little clear cut ‘bad’ and ‘good’ guys if that makes sense? The MC is part of an organization that is corrupt and criminal even if they’re still poor and weak compared to those that live closer to the surface. So I think post-apocalyptic works a bit better because that both describes the state of the world as we know it and it implies society has in some sort of way collapsed despite there being no necessarily a big bad government/big brother/etc. type figure in charge.
I don’t play a lot of video games mainly because I play on a crappy Walmart lenovo computer as my only system and I’m still uncertain how this thing manages to run Witcher 3 half the time but I do want to get into more video games.
You should! Zelda is a big franchise, right? I’m sure loads of people love it.
I’m sorry! I find it so hard to support Wattpad anymore. I don’t understand how they could have taken something that was so nice and ruin it so drastically. Anywhoo, is the book still available for sale? Does that still support you? Is there a kindle version? After all these years I’d still love to read the book.
Damn! Wish there was a bootleg version I could just read then! How can they get away with you never seeing a penny from it!? I’ve never looked into professionally publishing because that was never what writing was for me, but holy shit that seems insane to me!
Ah, I see. Yeah, that sounds more post-apocalyptic.
I think it’s interesting though that I thought of dystopian. There’s probably some crossover. Like, maybe, from a different perspective, or from a different tier, the world could be more dystopian than post-apocalyptic? Or even…cozy?
I was thinking about one of my fantasy worlds the other day and how I could, if I wanted to, write other genres based in this world.
I could take a character who has ties with magick and write a fantasy adventure novel, or I could take a character who has no ties with magick and write about their days at school trying to pass a test and suddenly, it’s no longer a fantasy adventure novel.
reverse ships: unships, where i revert the romance back to friendship and the Only One Bed trope is just them trying to sleep for real but one of them is a blanket stealer and the other is a mattress hog and the resulting bad sleep + argument lasts 3 days and almost ends the friendship.
