Something close to a horror fantasy woek
What kind of horror is it?
Supernatural/psychological.
I do enjoy a good horror every once in a while, especially for the fun kind of frights around Halloween lol. Is this a project you’ve finished or a WIP, and if you’re still working on it do you think this time of year will help you write with October right around the corner?
The form of it keeps changing, I tried to simplify it so that it doesn’t require a phd to follow.
Yeah I tend to over complicate things myself too. Good luck with being able to get on track and write your project though, I believe in you!!
Personal update: it might not be a lot, but I’ve added 60 words to my Ellipsus wip!! And read 44 more pages of my book, both of which feel like big wins for me right now!
No seriously!!! I have spurts where I love to write and where I don’t. Yet somehow whenever I want to work on my own books vs writing online with somebody I have NOTHING. and i know it’s due to perfectionism. sooooo i say….just write. especially the first draft. you know you’re going to end up changing everything or just re-writing everything anyway. i know i know, easier said than done. perhaps having writing buddies would help?
yesssssssssss! I also have been reading more and it’s not much but I also added some word count to my book i’m writing and fleshed out a few more characters that haven’t been introduced yet! any progress is GREAT progress ![]()
In honesty, it does massively help when you have someone to bounce your ideas off to build your own excitement for your story and share snippets and character profiles with to keep you motivated. I don’t really have that soundboard in my schedule anymore these days which is a shame because I miss the community aspect of when I used to write and post on wattpad or when I was in fanfic circles and could share writings with the friends I made through that.
And also it makes it harder to transition from that, where characters you write about come with premade looks, personalities, backstories, archetypes because then you have to do all of that work to know how to portray your original characters with that same excitement and information without overloading the reader and I feel like that skill has been lost for me somewhat where I got back into fanfic.
EXACTLY! I’m glad you’ve been making progress even if it’s slow. And I always tell myself reading is good too because you can get inspired and keep yourself familiar with creativity even if it’s someone else’s.
yes! or for me, i always read 1st person but the story i’m writing needs to be in 3rd. sooo i put down the 1st person books and picked up 3rd person (throne of glass) and it honestly helped sooo much. also i totally understand. i would say just remember you’re writing for YOU. have fun with it !
That’s so valid! I always struggle to decide whether it would be better to tell the story in 1st person or 3rd person and I don’t know how anyone decides what is right lol.
for me, i wanted it to alternate between two perspectives and i find as a reader when the author does that but they’re both in first person it can get confusing. BUT honestly, it’s all preference. if you dont’ need to tell multiple point of views or multiple like people’s stuff other than MC (kind of like how in throne of glass, the story follows a bunch of people other than just the main character even if the main character isn’t with them? that’d be needing 3rd person.) but if it’s just following one person? ehhhhh do whatever you’d like!
Hm, yeah you’re right that is a good point! My story has two main characters but I can’t tell whether to have dual povs or whether first or third sounds better for the narrative, I guess I am leaning to first person right now as I want to tell the characters’ feelings from each of them personally, but obviously each chapter would be headed by whose pov it was in lol
sometimes you can still do feelings in 3rd pov! maybe not as intense but you definitely still can if it’s following their path in the chapter – if that makes sense. that’s the part that’s hard for me too, i really used reading books as a way to understand how to do it. and once you see it, you can’t unsee it!
Yeah exactly. I think I just need to keep reading and taking inspiration from how other people choose write
little bit, as weird as that sounds! like never their ideas—but the way they do the perspectives’ yeah. it’s helped me alot!
Tho i will say, i roleplay on a website / write with others && this girl straight said ‘i once had a super long roleplay, but they don’t go on here anymore. i should just copy and paste it into a book’ i said u mean to publish?
she said yeah! why not?
i said ummmm plagiarism ?
she said oh ya, i guess i’d have to write it.
i’m like…and change their characters, the ideas that got put into it, like girl wym???
so…don’t be THAT person hahaha but definitely see how they do the different perspectives. it helps for sure.
Yeah more inspiration from their narrative voice and how they write perspectives, obviously I don’t want to just write their book again for myself because that isn’t fair and also that’s just so boring. Like where is the fun and imagination behind writing and creating if you just copy someone else?
