I feel this.
Subway used to send me coupons all the time, then they just stopped after the pandemic. I went once with my mom while visiting my parents and it cost around $30 for 3 Cold Cut Combos (their cheapest sub) and it was just the sub, no drink or chips with it. Pretty much any other food chain gives me a side and a drink for all of us if we are hitting near that price. So I’m likely never going back.
Actually, earlier this month (or was it last month?) Subway Corporate had an emergency meeting with the franchisees because they are hemmoraging money and now they finally have deals again for things like $7 Meal Deals. But it’s too little too late for me as I can go to a better Sub shop and get something higher quality and more filling for around that same price.
But uh, yeah, most places have moved on from coupons and want everyone to download their app for their deals so they can double dip by selling us food and selling our data. It’s really sad.
I’ve been mostly buying things that I can make at home or microwave. If I do go out to eat, I tend to lean towards restaurants because they are about the same price as fast food chains now and offer better quality food (and I don’t need an app to do it).
Especially the hole-in-the-wall/Mom and Pop places! There was this one that I really loved that I could get a hot link and fries for $4. It saved me a few times when I miscalculated and didn’t have much left to spend for the week. Unfortunately, they closed down and got replaced with a Boba Tea place earlier this year ![]()
Things sure aren’t how they used to be a couple of years ago, that’s for sure!
