Lol.

I do find it sad that the conclusion drawn from this segment of scripture is that the rich cannot, at all.

Yeah, King Solomon is a weird religious figure.

That’s because he is more of a historical figure. Things are far more straightforward when it’s only a religious story.

Thing most people don’t get about Israel is that, just like their curse/blessing warned, they were a stronger nation under monotheism then polytheism. Historically, if the king was said to be “just like his father David”, he was seen as a good monotheistic king. It’s seen a lot in the lists of kings. Solomon most likely was monotheistic, but he allowed his “foreign wives” to open their own temples up, so the society was definately polytheistic at the end of his reign. Even at it’s most simple, if you have a bunch of power hungry priests yammering at a king, jockeying for power, you increase court intrigue. The fewer powers, the more stable the kingdom, as long as the ideology is stable for the region.

But even aside from that, too many wives and concubines, too many kids to make sure they were all raised wisely, and a son cam after Solomon who was a spoiled brat, by how it was so easy to lead him into acting like a donkey.
