That’s ok. There’s plenty who do it. AS IT IS, even those of us who are patching and shoring up the existing still have parts where we have to do a total rewrite. So to some degree most everyone does this. Just not the whole of it, all the time.
Thanks for reassuring me.
I think my thing is finding a good enough beta reader for when the time comes.
Though yeah you’re right about everything is expensive.
If you get enough people genuinely behind your product and can prove you can deliver things… you might be able to take advantage of crowd funding
mainly its cause ur doing it urself, my step mom from another life self-published years ago. its cause ur not doing things in bulk, publishers also are doing multiple books at once. They also have contracts with the printing companies
Like a kickstarter?
I don’t think I am capable of pulling that off.
Yeah, like a Kickstarter but there are other websites like Publishizer for authors specifically to fundraise for a book. If you have a good idea, and some faith and some interest, I think you can do it. You just need a bit of a fan base and a few people who believe in your idea/brand. It will take time but just focus on writing something and getting people involved in your journey and niche. You have the talent and the drive.
I am still working on the story and it’s in the earliest drafts. I’ll place into consideration as I still have to keep writing.
I thought about self publishing, but then I looked at the cost… It is beyond my Payroll to do so at this, and that, time, and it keeps getting higher as the years go forth…
Don’t know if I will ever go in that direction, but one day when my ship comes in I may… Who knows eh?
I don’t say that you should not, and never will. But you need to be financed enough alongside your ambition to do so effectively.
Cover design is something that you could do yourself (Tools to do so are available it seems), editing is a you choice. I have my own cover design, and I can do better in time, and I will do with my artistic ways of painting and such to create a cover that is fitting.
Yet, the “Impossible Dream” as it is known as, is getting the recognition that shoots you into the world of Publishing is that one thing that we all aspire to… As we do not have the financial means of self publishing… At best all we can do is leave a story for our children and grandchildren to read as our legacy…
And if that is all that happens to my tales, so be it… It has been worth it…
We write because we have a story to tell, and nothing more… Yes, some dream of being the next Steven King or G.R.R. Martin or other… But for the most, we just have a tale to tell… And that is enough…

I ain’t self-publishing, I would rather traditionally publish…someday.
Me too!
If that is ever an option… Some day, eh?
I feel ya!

Me, too.
That’s why I cut where I can cut, but still get quality. Btw, my book is out XD Between Roses paperback is self-published!
I cut editing. I used many rounds of betas for editing, and so, I didn’t get developmental editing because the rounds of betas helped enough. I got line editing at a affordable-for-me price which did the basic, very basic line editing. Then I got proofreading which was, again, used to do any extra line editing/copy editing.
I also aimed for quality design, but at affordable-for-me prices. The cover and illustrations (yes, it’s illustrated) is where I put the most money because for me, those were the two things I wanted to put money into. I was confident in the content, so I wanted the book to match that.
So, you might decide where you want to do it yourself and cut costs, and where you want to spend.
For some people, it’s their full-time job and their only source of income. For other people, it’s a side hustle, and therefore, might be a little lower priced compared to others. But price doesn’t dictate quality as you probably know
Where did you get some of these things when you do need to buy something?
Long story short, people’s websites and social media.
Now here’s the long story
I looked around at editors’ websites, saw how much things generally cost, came up with a budget, and then asked in Facebook writing groups for anyone or anyone who knows anyone who can do it with my budget. I also kept an eye on editors and proofreaders on IG and checked their prices. If someone looked affordable to me, I’d make a note.
As for illustrators, I got all that on Fiverr.
Cover artist was through a Facebook group filled with cover artists. I found a few people I liked, checked their website for prices, came up with a budget, and then I talked to them about the price for the idea I had.
