What about writing conventions? Why is that not a thing instead of the book conventions?
Random thought about revising some of my charactersâ profiles for Goddess v2.0, and the charactersâ relative profiles in some short stories too.

Change Kristaâs age to 16. This would make her four years younger than her brother, and she would have been born in 2000, around the start of the 2nd Intifada. And, given that Kristaâs parents were Karenâs mercenaries for about eleven years before her birthday, a casual reader could be convinced that Kristaâs genetic code includes several iterations of IDGAF.
The age of 16 would also place Krista at the start of her senior high school study. Maybe for a major HS project Krista studied the Australian Light Horse, and their various antics during the First World War (especially the charge of Beâer Sheva, where Krista was born). Krista also dressed as a Light Horseman for the previous yearâs PurimâŚThis would place significant personal value on Dovâs future surprise gift for Krista: an authentic Light Horse slouch hat, accompanied by a tailored kangaroo-leather jacket⌠-
Maybe change Freyjaâs (and / or Avivaâs) age to 16 too. Freyja doesnât have a precise age so maybe change Freyjaâs âvisualâ age to 16, leave Aviva at 14, and say Dr Landerâs accelerated-growth clone project was too effective. The clone developed two years beyond her (prominent) donorâs biological age before Landerâs team could slow her growth rate to a somewhat normal pace.
I may have to make Freyja physically appear taller and heavier than she is now, to further emphasise her unintended development, but at least a reader wonât expect her to draw too much attention when hanging out with Dov. Added bonus, Freyja would be old enough to driveâŚand the mercenaries have a decommissioned circuit-tuned HSV looking for a new owner⌠-
I had contemplated changing Dovâs age to 30 as well. So he joined the Commandos through a normal-duration selection course, served for seven or eight years, and a medically-comatose Dov âdonatedâ DNA to Landerâs clone project at 26 when his Viking FA;FO genes had reached their peak potency. But for now, Iâll leave Dov at 28, his background seems to work okay as is.

Iâm tempted to make spinoffs/AUs/one offs of my stories (including fanfics) that involve things from Incorrect Quotes-
Iâm officially launching my Substack in September! Itâs gonna be weekly dispatches of my hilarious, heartbreaking and unhinged romantic encounters with a little bit of sociology. Like a dating blog. Iâm really excited. Itâs gonna be good
I havenât done it in a while, but I am going to start doing chapter summaries and character biographies but I am going to try something different which is by hand.
I am also going to worldbuild Alagossia too. So, as of now, Project Succession is on a hiatus, though I am unsure how long the hiatus will last, it shouldnât be too long.
Thank you for the eye-opening, @Xelyn_Craft, seriously!
But what would people do at a writing convention? The problem with writing is that itâs not really a group activity, itâs something you do in a quiet room all by yourself without any distractions. Talking about books is something people can do in a group. And thereâs buying books at those conventions, selling books, meeting authors, meeting industry people, etc. What would a convention of writers even do once they got there? ÂŻ\_(ď˘)_/ÂŻ
Okay, weâd drink a lot⌠(âŻ^.^áŚ)
I canât dream?! It can be both, a writing a book convention. I donât know, I just want to dream about what it could be.
Ah! Well, if itâs a fictional writing convention, I suppose we could have all the worldâs most famous authors show up and hand out signed copies of their latest work for free. ŮŠ(ËâĄË)Űś
Then theyâd hold writing workshops and give writing and publishing advice to everyone, then look over our work and promote it on TikTok and Instagram. Yay!
Maybe famous and important movie and TV people would have tables where theyâd let us submit work for consideration for movie deals, then theyâd turn our books into scripts.
And weâd all get drunk and exchange phone numbers and contact info, and have lunch with them every so often whenever theyâre in town. Sounds good to me! ă˝(^ă^)丿
Yes, these are the things that I can actually see happening.
I am assuming too much that such a thing could be possible, though it isnât too impossible. Just funding is going to be an issue.
Ah, a girl can dream canât sheâŚ
Next is chapters 6 and 7 of Alive At Dawn. Adding charm and a bit of editing, I mean.
Also, Kickstarter, here I come.
How do you even do a Kickstarter? I see it a lot on YouTube, well sometimes. How does one go about doing something like that?
That sounds a bit like the Brisbane Writersâ Festival. I havenât been to one of those in decades. If there are similar events in Europe, they will take second place on my must visit travel list. National and Fine Art galleries are still first place on that list.
Must. Add. To. My. Bucket List.
What I know so far is that you have to first know whether or not you will have people who will be interested in backing the project.
Iâve seen many authors who have nothing and expect to get a full backing for the project, but then it doesnât come through, so they have to try again. You canât get the money unless you meet your money goal. Youâll have tiers that offer different amounts of goodies depending on the price.
I know that you can get followers to your kickstarter page before you launch it.
You also need to create your kickstarter page, and Iâve looked through a bunch with the mindset of âa book lover looking for new books and goodies from authors Iâve never heard ofâ. With that, I figured out what is good as a kickstarter page.
Kickstarter pages of three fantasy authors
Something like this one is pretty good because itâs clear what backers will get and what the story is about and who the characters are, and so forth. Of course, this person has published a lot already, so he has an advantage when it comes to goodies. But I think this kickstarter page is also really good because even if you donât know the author or his books, you might be interested in backing. It also has a sample, so youâre not going in blind which is nice. The way he writes about âwhy kickstarterâ is also more from the readerâs perspective. Heâs barely mentioning author jargon.
Itâs a lot of work, but I think itâs worth it to make a page like his where thereâs lots of visual information.
This one is also pretty good with the detail, but itâs a little hard to read because you really have to look for where it says âtiersâ and what you will get if you back it. It also doesnât look professional or exciting. The first one with all the pictures, illustrations, and so on, it just looks more exciting to me if Iâm going to back it.
This one is hard to tell what youâre getting and what it will look like. Yes, thereâs information about the book, but if Iâm going to back it, I would want to know what exactly Iâm getting and what it looks like. As a book lover, I want to know what the cover looks like, too. I might also be someone who doesnât know anything about being an author or marketing, so it might not make sense to me when I see that proofing or quality checking is something that can cost money. I didnât know any of that stuff until I decided to self-publish ![]()
Some people who have never heard of you might find your page. Patreon is the same, but I think people who are âfansâ are those that will find your Patreon. Kickstarter you can kind of use as like a shopping site because you can actually get products, so lots of other people might browse as well. Itâs so much more product focused.
Omg Iâve never heard of this before, but it sounds splendiferous! ă˝(^ă^)丿
I got my first sweet potato for dinner tonight.
I never had sweet potatoes dinner, but I know my grandmother loved eating those when she was alive.
Sweet potatoes are awesome
Honestly, I canât decide if they are just okay or not suited to my taste buds? Iâm so used to a regular potato, but I canât have that because I need to eat healthier.
So, after this one, I donât want to buy another oneâŚ
Sorry grandma!
