So, tell me, what is on your mind at the moment? (Part 1)

So, yeah, today is not a great day for me or anyone in family.

My grandmother didn’t make it.

EDIT: Four days till her birthday and she would’ve been 78 years old.

RIP grandma!

Ron DeSantis is outlawing pronouns now. If you’re American, I beg you to register to vote and then vote against this cretin in the 2024 election. Please don’t let this idiot happen to the entire United States. (-᷅_-᷄๑)

I am going to my grandmother’s apartment to clean up the place with my other family members.

Really uneasy about that.

Always a hard thing to clean up and clear out after someone passes. If you can do that “shut down and work automatically” that some of us ADHD can do, now is the time to use it.

I don’t agree with everything DeSantis says and does–well pretty much everything, but I think that kids shouldn’t really be at drag events.

I know this opinion is probably unpopular, but when you have drag artists saying that their acts are ‘for adults only’ and ‘adult entertainment’, then I don’t think that actual kids should be going to it.

If they want it to be an adult only venue, and a space for them and other performers to hang out, and for adults to watch that too and unwind, then people should respect that and not bring their kids.

Would you bring a kid to a strip club and give them money to throw at performers? No. So why should sexualized drag shows be the same, and why should they be forced to cater to children when they don’t want to, at their shows?

Club performances are one thing. Of course children aren’t going to clubs.

The bill bans drag performance in “public property which might be in view of children”. It could literally mean anything. What about brunch? Kids could be at a restaurant or cafe when there’s drag brunch happening. And also drag queen story hours are a thing. What if a someone walks down the street in drag? Does that count as performance in view of children? What about Pride? Is dressing up inherently sexual? Next thing you know they’re gonna ban women wearing trousers.

It’s insane. Makes my blood boil. It feels like everything we’ve fought for, for almost over a century, is being reversed. If they try to pull some bs like that here, which I fear is heading that way, I WILL GET VIOLENT.

Yeah, I know, but some idiots still try to bring their kids there. I was in agreement with that specific point.

But yeah, if they are gonna police everything outside of that within a ‘drag performance’, then people will have an uprising, definitely. It is hard to judge that, for sure. What about theater performances? I think that part is extreme, yeah. You can’t realistically ban it all, from that point of view.

They want to rile the people up, and for them to get violent and turn against each other. That’s the main reason for passing unreasonable, and extreme laws that contradict human rights, and also the amendments.

I don't even like men. But even I find Mari kinda hot. 😐

I think I have a severe and unhinged addiction to Mari.

But these aren’t adult drag shows. These are drag queen story times for kids at the local libraries. It’s a thing here. Drag queens read Dr. Seuss books and other kid books to kids and it’s all very innocent and fun. Personally I think it’s wonderful that drag queens volunteer their time for free like that. The idea is to get kids used to the existence of people in drag, just normalizing it, and DeSantis doesn’t want trans people to be normalized. He wants them to be considered an aberration.

Why is the argument so focused on children to begin with? I’ve talked about it with my classmates before, and we think it’s nonsense - as a kid growing up in Taiwan, my parents and teachers never gave any thought about how drag shows or pride events would endanger us because that’s just not something relevant to my life. Sure, we see rainbow flags, we know it’s for encouraging people to be themselves and that’s it, that’s all I needed to know as a third grader and anything else would bore me. I’ve seen pride parades take place right in front of my school, but we don’t have story hours, talks, or events catered specifically for kids because again, why bring children into this? I thought it was a red herring when I first read about it because I honestly haven’t heard anyone put drag shows and children in the same sentence before. It’s just… not a concept that exists here, and I still don’t get it

Me tryna use the internet without constantly being reminded that I am in fact an afront to nature:

Like damn I already deleted both my Twitter and Discord accounts how much more do you want from me lolol

You don’t have story time for kids at your libraries? We’ve always had story time for kids, but at first it was librarians doing it, and then later when they didn’t have time they encouraged volunteers from outside the library system to come in and do it. So drag queens started volunteering with the ulterior motive of having kids in our country grow up thinking of gays and trans people as perfectly normal and nothing to get excited or upset about. That’s all. But a lot of conservatives today want to turn back the clock and treat gays and trans peeps as an abomination like in the past, so they’re attacking these library story times, claiming LBGQ+ people are contaminating the minds of kids.

Not much, and not many drag queens volunteered for that, if there’s any. Plus, less and less people are going to small libraries since Taiwan made their city libraries more contemporary, unique, and versatile. Here are some examples.

I’m tired of both extremes on the politicial spectrum, and in moral codes/opinions.

I am tired of people being like you have to have X, Y, Z as your talking points or else you are ___phobic or you’re going to hell because you disagree with me.

Everyone needs to chill out, and sit down. And drink some coffee or beer. And not be so reactionary, and be so against each other. The world’s not ending. Yet.

If parents are bringing their kids to 18+ shows then that’s their issue. Not the performers’.

The issue is that there has been a few story hours where they didnt vet the people, and and registered sex offenders were reading in front of kids while in drag. (Once or twice.) Its not too hard to find the local papers on it. (Thing is not every library system requries a background check before everything, when they should.)

There’s 2 wrongs there that are widely unaddresssed: a registered sex offender shouldn’t hide behind “drag” or “trans” to “read to kids”. The Trans community should be enraged at this guy for causing an uproar, under their banner. Its the same argument against keeping a preacher or priest in a church and their congregation circles around them to protect them.

But as for the rest, we’re always discussing how far a ban should go.

But it shows human nature. People who wholly supoort something have a hard time taking any criticism, and conversely, tbose on the outside want the whole dang thing gone.

I’m going to say this as a conservative mentality that I mostly keep to myself: having morality is an affront to nature.

example

If we are going to talk about nature: they are finding out that incest is far more common than western culture used to think. The reason we don’t regularly get with anything closer than 4th cousins is because it was forbidden by the Catholic church, and because a man who grew up in Egypt as a princess’ son back before the bronze age forbid close incest in his commands (Moses). 1st cousins are still common in large swathes of this world.

The science on thia has only caught up very recently.

We have too many surface conversations. Me saying someone is unnatural is not an endorsement of a thing because that’s not enough to prove its a worthwhile stance.

Reviewing the first few chapters and honestly for a first draft this story is actually pretty good wtf

Guess I may as well take the hit and submit it to reading lists because I doubt I’m gonna edit it until late June :person_shrugging:
