He doesnβt understand him. His son is a nerd, and strange to Ricky, whiβs the opposite.
How can that translate into a story? Is Ricky discriminative towards nerds? Thinks his son is doing nothing with his life? Does he have a differing opinion on what his son should be doing?
He has no experience with nerds.
He thinks he should be more sociable, and he should do more things and find an interest in life thatβs somewhat productive. He thinks that heβs too antisocial, and spends too much time indoors.
He thinks that his son should get a job of something. He has a degree.
And how does the son feel about all this?

And what does he do to show this?
He rebels against Ricky and shows disdain. And is like you wonβt tell ME what to do, Dad.
So how can you make this conflict worse? The son leaves home finally and cuts off his dad, and Ricky realizes what heβs done? Or Ricky sabotages maybe an important relationship, professional or personal, of his sonβs?
Hmm, maybe yeah. Ricky would be very shocked at first that Eliel had the balls to leave home, and that he actually left him because heβs always been there. And Ricky would want him back.
On a side note: Do you ever wanna punch someone for using a pink font thatβs unreadable against a light background?
how old is this son again?
and how old is ricky
There needs to be a point of no return for the conflict, from which both characters need to grow and develop. The son maybe sees his dadβs side, even if he doesnβt fully agree, and Ricky has to come to terms with the fact his son is nothing like him. Where is Elielβs mother? Did she leave Ricky and maybe Eliel turned out more like her, hence, Rickyβs disdain?
Sometimes.
In this, current day Ricky would be 48 and the son is 26
Yeah, he had him young.
Yeah, of course. He has to come to terms with the fact that theyβre very different people.
His Mom died when he was young, so Ricky actually pretty much raised him himself (with the help of his family) and he sees a lot of what he can remember of her in Eliel.
Yeah, she really had a thing against swearing. xD Sigh, that goes to show how easy it is to be influenced by this world. You always start out with strong resolve, but then once you get enough exposure it starts eating its way in.
Yeah, a lot of your older stories are really good, actually. Theyβre creative and the plots are interesting.
Yep, thatβs expected. I have a feeling Iβll probably never even write a fade-to-black
Iβm not even sure if Iβll write any explicit romance.
Ah okay. So yeah. Take that conflict then. Make it worse. Make it worse again and make the characters come back from it, grow, develop and change.
Not really my mum was 23 when I was born
also when the son is 26 he is an introvert adult not a nerd.
Yeah, of course. I think Ricky got frustrated with Eliel when he was like 10-11 and not doing the things that Ricky expected him to do (i.e. socialise with the other boys and his cousins, go on hiking trips with him, get involved in sports, take an interest in cars). Heβs just not that kinda guy, lol.
@qwerty Also nerds donβt have an age limit, believe me
Hello, and welcome! And chocolate rocks!!
but how could you dislike coffee? o.o xD
Iβll add you to the taglist in a moment!
YAY

Ah, I see.
