If you don’t do it on Discord, I might join. My connection drops like a fly on there for some reason.
Would it be possible to extend the amount of time before topics are auto-locked? I feel like the forum would be a lot more active if topics didn’t purge as fast as they do.
Are there specific topics you’re referring to? In Chatters and All Things Writing, the topics don’t lock until 14 days after the last reply (meaning the thread has seen no activity in two weeks). I’m happy to consider it, but two weeks of no activity on a thread does tend to indicate that discussion has petered out. Are there other threads that have shorter timeframes that I’m forgetting?
It’s mostly random stuff in Chatters. Sometimes I’ll remember a topic and have something new to add to it, but when I go to look for it it’s already locked. Another factor is that even if all the regulars have said what they have to say, it could be useful to leave them open a little longer so new users have more topics to participate in when they join.
I know there are probably some technical concerns the more active topics there are, so it’s just something to consider really.
I’ve gone ahead and turned off auto-close for chatters. We’ll give it a test run and see how it goes.
If you could get a millionaire donor and recreate something like Wattpad in 2013, that would be amazing (Obviously not the same, but something similar). It was so well-designed and simple to use back then.
Okay for actual suggestions for the website now, is there any chance you could increase the gif upload size from 4MB to 10? If there were a way, that would be amazing. If not, then I guess there’s nothing we can do. That would be amazing.
There is, technically, but it’s a universal file size, not gif-specific, which will put an extra strain on the forum for files that large. I can turn it up to 5MB though (I’ve hit that GIF limit myself, so I understand the frustration, but I just can’t justify raising the file limit that high I’m sorry lol)
Fair enough if it’s gonna add strain to the forum but I guess that not making it 10MB is reasonable for that reason. 5 would be cool though.
Yeah I bumped it up already, so let me know if you have any issues uploading up to 5.
Thanks and I will.
I really think the leaderboard idea for this forum is neat, and I do think that it can encourage people to be more active around here. I’m just a bit confused by how the placements are calculated
I have to admit that I’m not the most active person around, but I have been popping in lately and making some posts here and there. When I went to check the leaderboard, I’m apparently at 20th place. Meanwhile, some of the people above me (even one in the Top Three) haven’t posted anything since 2021, and we’re now halfway through 2022. That’s more than six months of not talking with anyone here.
I’m guessing it bases the placement on all-time likes, replies, etc. but I was wondering if the algorithm for the leaderboard could be modified? Instead of looking at all-time activity, it could look at all user activity within the last, say, three months. That way, those who’ve been talking a lot more in the forum will have an easier time rising to the leaderboard especially if they’re new, while those who’ve been inactive will be bumped down the list.
We can have very active new members but looking through the leaderboard right now, it looks like it’ll be very hard for them to even crack the top spots, while those who haven’t been around for a year could remain at the top with all the points they’ve accumulated during the early days of the forum. Maybe with this change, it’ll encourage members to be more active, especially newer ones who don’t have many points to begin with.
Not that you have to, I understand how hard coding can be. It’s something to consider if it’s possible. I just really like the way the top book lists are handled on the writing site (separate lists for all-time reads, reads within 24 hours, and reads within 30 days) and thought something similar could be applied here.
Just building on this, having a ‘top this week/month’ as well as an all-time (current) would be ideal.
a response to your note
I completely understand where you’re coming from, as funny as it seems at first glance XD you’ve been really helpful in the coding threads, and I’d love to see you there more and around the forum in general
You know what also bothers me?
I’m sorry but considering my recent activity and how she basically hasn’t showed up in more than eight months, I’d like to think I should be in front of her on the leaderboard. Sorry if that sounds arrogant.
Is there any follow-up regarding implementing that book club idea Domi suggested earlier?
I happen to agree with you so I reset the board to begin tallying in January. I can also do additional 24hr/30 day/all time boards but it will take a little time to implement.
Can I get a bloodshot eye emoji?
If you get a bloodshot eye emoji, can we have a churro too?
Y’all have the strangest ideas
Our pfps have similar colors now
What’s your new profile pic? It looks like Foxy from FNAF had a makeover (and yes, despite being old, I know who that is)
