Hi guys, if you are preparing a book for Wattys, this community imitative runs for the 3rd year in a row. Basically, it pairs up a writer with a mentor (Star, Paid, Published Writer or Professional Editor) who beta-reads the story by the mentee they select from applications. This year there is almost 30 mentors, so many more chances to get a mentor than last year.
Ugh, that’s something I should do. How long does the finished thing need to be?
Different mentors have different requirements. They are reflected in each mentor’s Wish List. You apply to the ones you feel you have a good fit with. I think you are allowed to apply to 3 mentors, or at least it was like that last year.
Here are the instructions on how to prep the submission:
thanks @DomiSotto I always manage to lose the links or the book in my lists haha
Just writing my 500 word synopsis. I hate these things. I forgot about it, and now I’m doing it, I realise why but once it’s done, it’s done XD
Yeah, those are a pita…
I’m using this as my excuse not to edit SLB currently… because if I get accepted by a mentor I want to try to edit the story in accordance with their advice, so being halfway through my own edit might not be helpful.
Oh, that’s a good one!
Any excuse is a good excuse! writes blurb for Des romance instead
Well, you have a lovely book that fits most of the mentors’ lists, so like, it’s actually a valid excuse
See in my head it fits like no lists because it doesn’t feel romancey enough to fit a romance-focused mentor but it’s also not YA enough to fit a mentor focused on that. So it kinda lands in between everything.
Apply to the ones you like the most/you think will be the most helpful with your goals, so long as you do not hit the ‘NOT’ parts of their Wishlist.
This can be closed now, because the applications are done!
