Winter Woods II; Chat and Relax

All this talk of music makes me want to record a euphonium solo.

I’ve been playing music when I was little but never learned to actually sight play because my old teacher only taught me to play piano, my new teacher is part of a piano association which has these piano exams and one of them has sight playing so it’s a new experience for me XD

So, it turns out I managed to get some peace and quiet before midnight

So, here’s the part of Vindicta that I can play smoothly:

WARNING: play at low or mid volume. There’s some hissing in the background that I can’t get rid off even though I played in very quiet conditions.

Now for comparison, this is the original:

I can actually play a few more bars after where my recording stopped, but it’s far from smooth.

Yeah, I know, the audio sucks (and probably my playing too) but it’s the best I can do. All the better recording apps are either paid or use a format Wacky doesn’t support

Still a noob, as you can hear

I don’t expect any likes, it’s nowhere near as good as @/TheMidnightAssassin’s playing. I’m just a novice.

Whoa, that’s the opposite of me. Sight-reading and music theory has always been a part of learning to play piano, no matter the teacher. Since we had to sight-read pieces according to our level, and I never went past basic sheet music, I’ve never managed to play anything as advanced as you have

I was talking about Christmas music in Discord. My family plays this sort of music at Christmas time.

i wonder in what world this would be considered novice x.x

In my world where in seventh grade, my twelve/thirteen-year-old classmates sight-read this for a music project (no joke):

But really, thanks for the kind words. You have no idea how much it means to me  I’ve been trying to improve my playing after seeing all the prodigies crush my self esteem (and having someone call me a bad pianist behind my back). In fact, I’m taking a piano course at my university next semester

I’m 13 seconds in and I’m already scared-
(it’s a great piece though XD)

No problem! I’m only stating the truth :relieved:

:frowning: they did not-
glares at the bad-mouther <.<

ooooh, cool! Will it be your 2, 3, 4, etc year?

Awww, you’re flattering me

that’s not the worst though. When I was in eighth grade one of our projects for a subject (civics, not music) each class was supposed to sing a song, so basically choir + musician. Someone asked me to volunteer as the pianist (I think it was the teacher?) and I agreed. I messed up during practice, one boy said ā€œit’s the pianoā€ and the teacher was like ā€œno.ā€ I messed up again, and the teacher was like ā€œyeah it’s the pianoā€

while the teacher came over to help, the entire class was laughing at me.

Needless to say, I was hurting inside. That’s why I never practice in front of other people.

Second year  it’s a beginner course with no prerequisite, so I’m assuming that it’s tailored for people with no experience. Well I do have some, but I’d rather start from the beginning. I’ve forgotten a lot of theory so I don’t mind going back to the basics

 XD

my heart- :broken_heart:
:frowning: that is terrible
that’s something that should never happen <.< (a taboo honestly / hello people? Where are your manners? it’s common knowledge 101 x.x)
was it one of the first practices?

ahhh, then it’d be a great way to ā€œsolidify your foundationā€~

yeah, it was the very first. Prior to that I spent some time looking up the chords. The thing was I tried to match the rhythm/beat of the song instead of playing it at a steady beat, and it backfired.

Luckily the teacher was nice. My eighth grade class was just the worst. Luckily my ninth grade class was amazing.

Yup

omg it’s so frustrating x.x

mini rant

when other ppl try something new, and it doesn’t succeed, they’re (unconsciously, maybe) branded as ā€œbad.ā€ Plus, practice is supposed to be full of mistakes and then fixing them. But then others are like ā€œoh, you play insert insrument? Then you should be great at it and perfect.ā€ which makes it 900000000x more pressurizing. As well as the fact that it’s in front of peers is fgafgebcdiuegeqawe (and then causes more comparison-)

but yay for the teacher!! XD I’m glad 9th was much better!

I love it!! It’s sounds so goood!

Probably cause my first teacher was just someone that played piano for church and never really learned piano.

I honestly don’t think I’m super advanced  to me, I’m far worse compared to my friends

That is so horrible! I’m so sorry that happened to you :disappointed:

Ah no, I loved that! Honestly, it doesn’t sound bad at all. It’s so smooth. You know, now I’m starting to realise that although some people are ā€˜really good’ at instruments and they can play complicated pieces, they don’t necessarily play them well. But you do! Even though you may not think you’re as good, to me, I think you play what you can extremely well! And I feel like that matters more. So yeah. Don’t bash yourself! You’re amazing at this.

:sadhug: :broken_heart: Aww that sounds awful… People are so ruthless. I wish you didn’t have to experience such a thing. Everyone messes up sometimes; why did they have to be such idiots about it?? Anyways, don’t let those kinds of people get you down. You are great at this.
