(It has begun!
Go forth, writer knights, your word dragon awaits!)
Q & A
Q: Can I work on a draft Iām already writing?
A: Yes, your word dragon can be a draft youāre working on. The point of this challenge is to consistently work on a writing project for a month.
Q: How do I defeat the word dragon?
A: Defeating the word dragon means that youāve finished the project by the end of the month or that you have come very close to reaching whatever writing goal you made.
Q: How do I win?
A: You win by showing up consistently throughout the month for your writing project. Word Dragon Challenge celebrates consistent progress. Reaching a word count or finishing a novel isnāt how you win this challenge.
Q: How do I prove that Iāve won?
A: Giving weekly updates can be proof, and I trust you to be honest ![]()
Q: Are there prizes?
A: You can message me for the winnerās graphics. Say, āIāve defeated the word dragon!ā
Hey Wackies! The Word Dragon Challenge thread is here!
This is a one-month writing challenge Iām hosting over on IG in collaboration with some other people. Note that it doesnāt have a word count goal like NaNoWriMo. This is about consistently showing up for your writing project.
Iām going to be doing a typical NaNo-like 50k novel challenge, but you donāt have to do that. You can choose 30k or maybe consistently edit a project. Come up with a goal, or none at all. The key is consistency ![]()
Iāve been told to tag
@Churro
And I canāt remember if anyone else wanted to be reminded ![]()
You know what, maybe Iāll do this! Iād love to finish my WIP by the end of November
Iām at roughly 52k right now, I think Iāve got another 20-30k left, but as it is a mystery, Iām always going back adding or removing clues and working on my foreshadowing. So I donāt know what wordcount I will end up with, but I do know I want to finish my first draft!
Sounds great!
Looks like youāve found your word dragon of choice ![]()
Btw, I put a link to this thread in my linktree. Iām going to try a little promo of this thread in a few days, but Iām not sure if anyone outside Wacky will join, but weāll see.
there was a similar challenge on Inkitt recently, which they dubbed the āInferno Challenge,ā where they encouraged authors to build a writing habit and publish daily for 2 weeks, for a grand total of 15k words. most people agreed that writing daily is maybe doable, but posting daily not really
so I will advertise and see if any Inkitt-ers with IG would like to join!
I said I would do 50k, and thatās my word dragon, but I actually have a few projects to choose from, and I havenāt decided which.
- Project Prince Girl: about a prince who has always felt like a girl, meeting a tomboy princess on the run from her mother who wants to marry her off. Sleeping Beauty inspiration included. New world. Old lore.
- Project Scorch: a cursed boy finding out the truth of his past, and meeting kids like himself, and theyāre all on the run from the kingās men. New, fresh, untouched world and lore.
- Project Ilvagi: an Elgana story taking place in the land of Ilvagis. A story of self-discovery and acceptance of terrible fate. Old world and lore.
If Iām thinking about writing 50k in order to finish a draft to eventually publish, I should work on Project Prince Girl because itās part of the New Soleil Girls books which Between Roses is also a part of.
If Iām thinking of having fun in an unfamiliar world, itās Project Scorch.
But if I want to be in familiar territory, itās Project Ilvagi.
Hmm ![]()
The pressure! And everyone has different schedules, too.
See, I didnāt want to do that with this challenge. Wordra celebrates consistent progress. Whatever that looks like for you is up to you to decide
The only thing I ask for is weekly progress updates. Let us know how youāre faring with this challenge. Tell us how the week has been. Oh, and the week can end on a Sunday, but it can be a Tuesday if thatās when you have time ![]()
Sounds awesome, thanks! ![]()
Sounds smashing! Iām not on IG, but Iām definitely in. My goal at the moment is to write at least 100 words a dayāngl Iād be happy with even just that right now. (āÆ^.^į¦)
Because I am lazy, I will go for 20k ![]()
So thatās⦠5k a week? Manageable for me.
Yaaay! Sounds good ![]()
I like pretending to Prep⦠does that count? ![]()
Nah, I did some sort of prep, but I donāt think it counts lol.
yep! not to mention that everyone was likeā¦if weāre all posting daily, what the hell is happening to the algorithm?? will anyone even see our stories? (the answer is no, they will not lmao)
This might be the thing I need to get out of my writing slump
I had 10k words left to meet my yearly goal, so thatāll be my aim for the month (roughly 2.5k words per week? not too bad)
Will be checking out the IG too!
Looks great Enna! I always join all the overlapping events, so count me in
I might not get as much done this year as I have a lot of work on + handling events myself
Still, going for 50k across however many projects I work on.
Would it be okay if I use a couple of these graphics to share the announcement on Inkitt? Iām thinking 2nd and 3rd ones. I doubt Iāll get ppl to join Wacky, but some of them do have IG, so they might join on there.
FOR THE RECORDā¦itās been eons since Iāve been on a forumā¦literally took me a couple minutes to figure it outā¦but, tagging in if I can remember to check IG. So, youāve been successful in luring at least one Inkitter overā¦
OMG YOUāRE HERE!! HI!!!
welcome to my den of iniquity!
Wackyās not a huge community, but itās a cozy little place for all sorts writing and even graphic design. have a look around, feel free to hop in if you find any threads you like (we prolly need to clean up some old ones lol).
if you have any questions, thereās a private messaging option when you click on someoneās profile:

hit me up and Iāll help you out!
Looks like youāve found your word dragon of choice

If youāve prepped in some capacity, it counts I think ![]()
