Working on two different novels with mystery elements, however....

Firstly, Project Chaos was a short story that I did years ago that I always wanted to make into a novel, that never came. Now, this year 2025, I am going to make it into a stand-alone novel (Chaos works better as a stand-alone instead of a series). The story is survival apocalyptic horror that is a psychological mystery thriller. This story takes place on Earth.

I love the plot twist I gave the short story version.

Secondly, Project Venomous was a story supposed to happen on Alagossia. It does not work on Alagossia or even my second planet Ezica. Earth it does work for it better, preferably urban fantasy in my home state New Jersey. Project Venomous is a mystery thriller with supernatural elements in an urban fantasy setting in the year 2020.

I do not write mystery thrillers at all. Yet I love to write these two projects. Oh my God! Project Chaos is giving me the weirdest and sweetest vibes in my head. I love the idea for the story, but to execute it is a toughie.

I won’t explain more about Project Chaos because of spoilers.

My slight problem is that I am new to writing stories focusing more on the mystery elements.

I need some guidance please and thank you.

Thoughts and feelings?

Unfortunately, I’m not much help, as I struggle with mystery too. I’m not good at coming up with a big twist and then keeping it secret while still dropping subtle hints the whole way to get to it. Especially because you have to come up with the mystery first and work backwards from there in order for it to make sense, and I write exclusively in order of events, from start to finish, so I just… I can’t.

Thanks for commenting.

Although in my mind, I believe I can do some justice, just not as spectacular as the pros.

I just need practice to get better.

Update:

Thinking about it, I’ve always written or tried to write stories with mystery thriller elements or just mystery.

I can’t remember when I’ve written a story that didn’t have mystery in it. I had to be a child when I wrote stories like that.

I guess I love mystery in my writing. Which is interesting because I don’t read much mystery or stories with mystery.

I always feel like I have to write a mystery element in my writing. It feels weird if I write something without it and I apparently don’t know how to write an action adventure novel with exciting moments.

Oh well.
