Long story but it is a manga that brought us the bane of @JellyGhost and @Churro’s existence.

I don’t even know where to begin with describing Akagi.

Exactly

Yes!

I just came from a comedy sketch by Drew Lynch about his ADHD wife.

Kaiji probably isn’t as funny as that…at least not on purpose.

Some books that should have been great, but there was something that fell flat about it, in my opinion:

All The Light We Cannot See
The ending dragged for me.

Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
They don’t. At least, it’s not shown. And it has nothing to do with outer space. And Dante’s POV never appears. Also the blurb lies about the characters in my opinion. Aristotle is not an angry teen. Dante is not a know-it-all. I don’t know why the blurb advertised them like that. The truth is better. Saying Aristotle is angry is like it’s trying to be Catcher in the Rye. It’s not. It’s better

The Markswoman
Such a cool idea for lore and fascinating setting, but the characters and plot were not good. MC begins with wanting a revenge. Then she is told not to think about that yet. So, she doesn’t. What??? I thought she was super passionate about the revenge and she just gives up once her authorities tell her to stop??? There’s a romance bit that comes out of nowhere and no chemistry. Weird time skips. Weird POV shifts.

Shadow and Bone
Alina could have been less sorry for herself all the time. At least that. Genya should have never been forgiven.

Mexican Gothic
The ending could have been even more devastating.

The Girl Who Speaks Bear
I know it’s middle grade, but why was MC given all the answers to her questions?? I wanted her to seek them out. She didn’t even get a chance to ask questions.
The answers were just presented to her. Made the story boring at times.

Orphans of the Tide 2nd and 3rd book
Middle grade. The amount and length of the dark and sad and lonely and horrible emotional parts was much too long and too heavy. So hard to get through those parts. I guess the good thing is the author made me feel so sorry and so bad for the MC. But I’m an adult. I can’t imagine a KID reading it.

The Blood Guard 3rd book
Middle grade. The open ending was too open. Way too many loose ends to call it an open ending.

Skyhunter 2nd book
Duology. The 2nd book had a weird additional POV of the important guy character where he has a subconscious that tells the readers all about his backstory and the lore of the world and just fills in all the gaps…or tries to. This guy was not fleshed out enough to have his own POV, so idk why the author added it. Without it, it would have been awesome, really. Talin was such an amazing MC. I wanted more of her and not this guy.

Have you read these books?

I’d rather have Kaiji spoilers than hear about that insult of a character called Akagi.

It is a book series, though. Don’t spoil it for Foxy.
