My typical dreams usually have one or more of these:
Big fantasy-adventure plot involving me, friends, family, or fictional characters and random people traveling to far away worlds and lands. Sometimes my own characters appear, which is always nice.
A mystery or horror plot that takes place in either a: spooky mansion, village in foggy woods, abandoned hotels or laboratories. There may or may not be a monster that chases me, and if there is, I can never see what they look like, only sounds and shadows. Often will have a chase sequence where I’m running in absolute darkness.
School or university dreams. Usually has me interacting with current or former classmates, being stressed about studying for an exam or because I’m about to miss a class/exam. There is always an obstacle that makes it difficult to get to the classroom on time. Sometimes I wake up without ever making it to class.
The mundane dream where I hang out or go on vacation with family or friends.
Videogame dreams where I either play it in my home, grandma’s home, or some other place. There is a good chance I end up “entering” and experiencing the game’s plot myself.
Dreams where I’m either an omniscient third-person entity watching other people/characters, or seeing things from said person’s perspective. Sometimes I recognize that I’m not “myself”, other times I’m fully acting as though I were the other person/character.
Lucid dream where I recognize that I’m dreaming and am able to control what happens to an extent.
A combination of the above. Often results surreal plots that make no sense.
Not very often, though there have been times where I can “influence” what me or other characters do in the dream without being aware that I’m dreaming. Not sure if that still counts as lucid dreaming or not. Oddly enough doesn’t apply to people I know irl.
As for interacting with my characters, its probably happened before, though I don’t remember it happening recently I’ve interacted with fictional characters from things I watch or read too

Most of the time I can only see myself when looking at a mirror in the dream
Yup! I assume everyone’s dreams always relate to real life in some way. But no, these dreams are about places I’ve never seen before. Have no idea where my brain gets them. Awesome places, though! I never dream about scary places. (ღ˘ᴗ˘ღ)
I’ve never seen myself in a mirror in a dream I rarely look at myself in a mirror irl. Idk if that has anything to do with it.
I can see a vague recognizable version of myself. Or my consciousness is hovering right behind my head around my shoulders. I know it’s me. The understanding in the dream is that that is me. I’m speaking in my dream, and yet, I’m seeing myself. It’s pretty weird.
Maybe those times when you can influence what you or other characters do without being aware you’re dreaming is a form of lucid dreaming. It’s about to become lucid dreaming. You’re not there yet. I’ve definitely had this before. I can make someone say something differently or I’m able to do something in my dream actively without it being like a movie. It’s quite delicate though because often I feel myself waking up.

Dreams are really our brains taking things it’s seen and mashing them together in a weird puzzle.
Do you ever wish you could recreate the places you see in your dreams? I wish someone would come up with technology to take pictures of the free movies we have at night There’s some really awesome places I’ve seen in my dreams, many I remember still.
Speaking of scary, do you ever have a dream where there’s nothing scary happening, but you feel this immense sense of dread or fear?
Might be another way reality influences our dreams then it’d make sense that I see myself in mirrors in dreams, considering my bedroom has mirrors on 3 out of 4 walls.
It does feel like that! Like you I’ve been able to take action in my dream or make someone say or do something different. It’s like taking a more “active” role in your dream rather than passively flow with it.

Speaking of subtitles, are you able to read or write in dreams? In mine words will look or come out as unreadable squiggles, readable words but they make no sense, or I try to write something but what actually shows up on the paper, computer, or phone is totally different.
We were born in the wrong time period! I honestly believe that in the future, scientists will invent some kind of camera that can record our dreams so we can watch them the next day. That would be so amazing!
And yes, I’d love to be able to recreate the places I see in my dreams. They’re so much prettier than real life places.
Yes! I often have dreams that are all emotion but not much happening. Sometimes it’s a happy dream, but sometimes it’s truly scary, especially when the dream involves dark, deep water. There’s just something scary to me about water you can’t see the bottom of, and the blackness of super deep water. Like at Niagara Falls. Water like that is so scary to me. I’d likely hate Loch Ness too. ヽ(ﾟДﾟ)ﾉ

Like, being a writer? XD It’s like making characters do and say things in the way you want them.
I don’t think I’ve ever written anything in any dream. As for reading, I think I see signs with words on them. I don’t have any specific memory of any signs or words. I just know there have been some.

This is the next step after virtual reality. Dream reality. I always imagine it would be like attaching some wires to your head and you’d generate the memory or the dream into a colorful hologram or something.
It’s like the scary unknown. I saw a liminal spaces artwork of a pool with no visible bottom. That was a little dreadful You probably shouldn’t look that up if you haven’t seen it.
I once had a dream about an underwater dark unknown before, but I trusted the person I was with in the dream (they asked me if I trusted them and me in the dream said yes), and in the very depths, I saw the most beautiful jewels sparkling among the coral and fish. Yellow, orange, pink, red, sapphire, emerald…just so breathtakingly beautiful, I wrote about it after waking up, and then it inspired part of a novel later
Dreadful place for me: I’m often alone in a dark or winter-time dark forest, a back alley at night, or on a dark hill in a park. There’s no one after me. Nothing happening. It’s just awful.
Do you ever taste things in your dreams? Or hear music? Or sing?
I can’t remember ever singing or tasting anything, but I often have music in my dreams. And sometimes I wake up still hearing the music in my head, so I record it before I forget. As far as I know I was the one who composed all that music. I’ve never heard those songs in real life. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯
So, it’s made up songs? That’s pretty cool. I wake up with random songs in my head often. Sometimes I can’t pinpoint it until some time later, it strikes me.
