~ ***** a fox chat ***** ~ [Now: Tell me to write, and ask me about it]

It’s not 100% confirmed yet, but it was discussed in an investor’s meeting or something like that between all the Reddit bigwigs. It’s very likely coming though.

No worries! I’m guilty of the same thing. I actually started ranting about paywalls in a comment I made to your Gatekeeping and Writing Advice video on your second channel before I went to bed last night

All these subscriptions and paywalls have gotten out of hand now. I think it was the company Logitech (?) who now has a computer mouse that you can buy which is locked behind a subscription (I don’t remember exactly how that works).

I don’t mind subscriptions if there is some value, but don’t take something away from me that always worked without one or was free and add one to it, you know? Add a subscription option with unique benefits to people who choose to pay; like how Patreon does it :face_holding_back_tears:

That sounds like some dystopian sci-fi thing :stuck_out_tongue:

Sometimes I wonder about the benefits on my Patreon  It’s honestly difficult to do Patreon before publishing because I just don’t have merch yet. I will, soon, but not yet.

I started Ream (do you know about it?) and I’m using it like Wattpad, offering chapters of a dark fantasy for free because I don’t want to make another paywall

Speaking of gatekeeping, I was about to react/review an article and then it flashed “buy my book for the full bit of advice” type of thing at me and I clicked out of that site :stuck_out_tongue:

I hadn’t heard of it until now! I’m looking it over and it looks really nice! I’ll make an account on there later. I’m pretty sure I remember you saying you have a bunch of your stories posted on places that can be read for free. I shall go scour for them in a while, it’ll be nice to have something new to read in my downtime :eyes:

If that isn’t irony, then I don’t know what is :pensive:

Yes! That is here (Wattpad) and here (Ream). Ignore the $3 membership. $3 was the lowest I could price it, however, I have seen $1 memberships around, but I think that was before they made the lowest limit. Anyway, I have three chapters of a dark fantasy on there for free. I plan to post more.

Yup, I’m on Goodreads! But I don’t really use it for anything except keeping track of what books I’ve read or want to read.

In the beginning I was really gung-ho and did polls and joined groups and stuff, but later I lost interest and haven’t even visited them since then. Mostly I use Goodreads for the annual reading challenge.

Oooh, I definitely recommend adding all the books you read as a kid. Whenever I find one I add it. It’s so nostalgic, and I’m hoping that one day I’ll have added literally every book I’ve ever owned or read in my whole life.

I add the books I hate if I’ve read them, but I don’t put them on their own shelf or anything. I just rate them with one or two stars. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯

To be honest I never really knew what it was actually used for lol. I would use it to get descriptions of books I find suggested and occasionally look to the ratings.

I got addicted to Goodreads for a good year. I used it to keep track of books I read, and watch the yearly reading goal go up. But then I realised I was reading to reach a goal instead of enjoying books. So I stopped using it. Also, I don’t like rating books out of 5 stars. It takes away the nuance imo.

I love to read them. Most of the books I read have them and they provided very important context

Yes, I do write them :joy: Sometimes I have more than one (eg in book 3 I’ve got 2 prologues happening at 2 different times within the story // book 5 I’ve got 3-4 happening at the same time)

Yes  That’s the short answer :joy:
But it’s just so helpful to be able to not just be able to reference the informative books I have, I can also use the internet and find out even more than what the books say, and sometimes can find new perspectives for arguments that I can use for my characters so they all have different ways of thinking

[causally follows you on goodreads]

I have one and use it when I remember it exists :joy: It’s just cool to see my books on there and I can also use goodreads to check reviews on the books my students study because sometimes those have interesting points

Nah. Not worth the effort

I thought you were making a joke about opening the door and going outside to try to make friends. You know, Open Sesame!

I felt so called out

I was thinking of open sesame, but that’s the furthest I went :stuck_out_tongue:
My thought process: Oh look, sesame looks like the word same. I’m gonna use that!

My jokes are quite simple and only have one layer to them most of the time XD

Topic: It’s been 4 years since 2020. So, what happened with you? Many people consider there was a time before 2020 and a time after 2020. Well, after all, they say hindsight is 20-20 XD Ah, the good old era before 2020. What a time.

How have things changed writer-wise, life-wise, or with anything you want to talk about?

I decided, hey, I’ll self-publish this book I didn’t plan to self-publish because why not? I started a YouTube channel and this channel is one that I’m enjoying making much more than my other channels (yes, current channel had something completely different on it).

What else did I do? Oh yeah, I moved and now live in an apartment with my partner.

I also finally got a cover for Between Roses, and character art, and started Patreon. I also started Ream as an experiment.

Oh, and I started illustrating a lot more and definitely improved since when I first started around 2019. I’m using fewer and fewer illustration examples as inspiration when drawing and really trying to look at the real thing (animals photos) and trying to interpret them my way.

Since 2020, I’ve reviewed 50 books on Instagram. Speaking of IG, I have over 1.2k followers now which is crazy. I started IG in 2019. How is it that so many people follow me now? :exploding_head:

Oh yeah, and I created this thread, fox chat

After discovering Heavy Metal and Getter Robo, my life has not been the same…

I guess going to college helps but my perception of the world has vastly changed.

Wowies, you’ve been productive! ( ˆ◡ˆ)۶ ٩(˘◡˘ )

Let’s see…since 2020 I’ve read a little over 400 books. Published two books on Amazon, and I’m about halfway done writing a third one. I deleted my Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and a few other socials for the sake of my sanity. My greatest achievement in all that time, I suppose, is that I’ve never caught covid, so yay! ٩(˘◡˘)۶
