A revelation of sorts regarding a character...

So, I had already thought about a character who I indeed wish to have n my tale… He (Aldan son of Culdan), was supposed to have stumbled upon an artefact of “Great Power” and one that would/could turn the tides of war…

Not going to lie here… I thought it seemed flimsy, and a little “Obvious cheap plot turner like in so many cheap Hollywood Movies of late”… So I omitted it in kind…

Last night I thought upon this additive (The Artefact) in a deeper way… And I feel like I have something that would, or maybe, could work… But I need your thoughts here, I really do… Please help here as I don’t often ask for it, and I’d be eternally grateful… I truly would.

So, I thought that Maybe Aldan from a young age has been warned of a possible uprising of the ancient power from the elder days by his father (who is now dead). And has in his keeping “The Artefact” but has been instilled within that he has not to touch it. Not unless the end days are nigh, and in direst of need, for fear that it may be used against the free peoples of Arillion.

That day is soon to come…

So upon the arrival of the peoples of Redstone into the Middle Kingdom, and a chance meeting with Prince Dalvryn he remembers what his father spoke of, and deems that the time is near… Deep within the underground passages of his farmstead, there lies that which he has had for so long, held in both fear, and wonder… The Drake Helm of Undermount…

No spoilers as to what it does, or of it’s powers…

This act would also cast light as to who and what stature his father Culdan had, and why he left his life to bring up his son in a quiet part of the world, the Middle Kingdom.

Thoughts and feeling would be kindly welcomed.

The use if the term “The Middle Kingdom” strikes me. China has that title-is there a Chinese inspiration for your story?

What if his father told him it was an object of great importance but didn’t tell him why or what it was for, so Aldan actually doesn’t know what it is? Maybe Culdan wanted to protect his son from it or from those who’d try to kill him for it if they knew he had it, although he fully intended to tell his son everything once he was old enough but Culdan died too soon…?

No… No Chinese nods here I’m afraid… But at some point there could be, so a thanks for that as it’s something to consider now.

I’ve had that angle for a while, but I’m thinking that Culdan already told him before he died.
I’m also thinking that Culdan could have also told someone else in order to look after Aldan and his future. I’m thinking Mr Brock the Blacksmith. Aldan has a good relationship with him, and often buys his wares for his farming needs. Also he likes Mr Brocks daughter, very much.

If the artefact is within his circles, could Mr Brock be the one who has it in his keeping? Would he choose to give it when needed, or to with hold it fearing what it may do?

I just don’t know at this point…

Any idea’s?

That’s an idea! Or maybe a villain could learn that Mr. Brock has it, and steals it from him after murdering Brock. So Aldan has to pursue the villain to retrieve it. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯

Oh no! Not Mr Brock! I like him too much…

But, I feel that another angle might be that Dalvryn (Prince of Redstone) after bringing his people to the Middle Kingdom, seeks out a Blacksmith for Horseshoe repairs. Seeing the Emblem of Redstone he recalls Culdan’s words of concern regarding the lands far to the West. And sees it as a sign to reveal Aldan’s heritage and that which was given to him for safekeeping…
Mr Brock and Aldan then seek out Dalvryn who has encamped upon the northwest edge of the forrest of Halthorn where Dalvryn accounts the Battle of Bannock and the exodus of his Kingdom…

I feel like this may be the right route to take and save Mr Brock… For now that is…

Thanks though, this made me think a little more about how to take this direction.

Sorry, I did not fully explain the name for The Middle Kingdom. It gets it’s name just from being surrounded by the other kingdoms of Redstone, Greyridge and Olban. Though most of Kel lies between the Middle Kingdom and Olban, only the southern borders of Olban reach out to the Middle Kingdom. Kel is a vast range of mountains which reach so far north that it would be impossible to cross them as its the widest part. Deep within this labrynth of mountains lies Undermount and the domain of the Drakes… And Riona’s home…

Ah OK! Would Kel be like your world’s Himilayas?

Yeah, I kinda guess it would… Impassable in many places, yet full of alpine grasslands where the Winter Elves lived after the Treaty of the Lords of Undermount and Bofandis the King of the Elves held council together.
