What type of canine everyone is
Hylians are dogs (so like, pit bulls, dobermans, labradors, that sort of thing)
Sheikah (and Yiga) are wolves
Rito are dholes
Zora are coyotes
Gorons are dingoes
Gerudo are Painted Dogs (Wild Dogs)
Kokiri and Koroks are foxes
Twili are dogs made of shadows, and Dekus are dogs made of wood
What happened in my most recent chapter before posting this thread:
The antagonist, Dagger, killed a collie named Cookie in front of Kohga (who liked her, and befriended her) and the rest of the Yiga Clan, which caused them to turn against him. They come across Wild, Flower (Wild’s Zelda), the Champions, and the Sages. Revali scents them first and, not knowing the Yiga want to switch sides, thinks he has to fight them, but Wild stops him, wanting to hear Kohga out. Kohga explains how Cookie was convincing him to stop attacking, before Dagger killed her, and that the Yiga want peace. Wild discusses this with the others. They are suspicious, but Wild ends up giving the Yiga a second chance, and they head to Lookout Landing to tell Purah what happened.

No, the Yiga are the evil versions of the Sheikah (until, in my fanfic, they switch sides. I think in Age of Calamity, which is one of the Zelda games, they also become good but I could be wrong. I also don’t think AOC is canon but I could be wrong there too-)
In any case, they remain evil in Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom (except for at least one who left the Clan)

Kind of? Painted Dogs aren’t hyenas, and they have differences, but they have similarities, too
I mean, I might write a fanfic of another game where everyone is cats/felines of some sort
Also when you originally said dhole I thought it was a play on words like calling them the a-holes of the dog world xD. I was like oh gosh what makes them so bad lol.
