Yes. Newd to read the beats of onw and onvert it, I guess…
ONW?
One. W is right next to it.
Using some “old” characters that I might bring to the light once again.
The Sovereign and her imperial court members
(The Grand-Lords/Grand-Kings and Grand-Queens)
Solanna Naivin: Solanna would read something with female protagonist going on epic adventures.
Julius Steelcrest: Art of War, Crime and Punishment, and Nineteen-Eighty Four. (Honestly, I never read the first two, but that screams Julius)
Knox Jackal: Wouldn’t read fiction. Would rather get richer, more powerful, and have a lot of sex.
Tarasynora Dorrel: Chick-lit and romance stories.
Cornelius Veckendeck-Lilsmen: cozy slice-of-life that involve food and togetherness.
Ivan Scarlett: Autobiographies and non-fiction
Marionette Constantine: Any Shoujo and Josei manga and webcomics
Bridgette (Bricks) Ackerman: Romantasy Novels.
Most of these books, I don’t read, because as weird as this sounds, I am a writer more than a reader and I am not trying to get published. It is all hobby and nothing else.
Heh, most of the books cited above are also from my favourites lists. I’ve done a lot of reading over the years.
I wasn’t certain about placing any Australian military books in Dov’s list. He doesn’t need to read about Australian Special Forces in Afghanistan, because he’s a former ADF Commando who completed three combat tours in Afghanistan. So I placed my favourite ADF SF books in Freyja’s list (Dov’s recommendations for Freyja’s study). On reflection, Warrior Brothers should go in Freyja’s list, and Warrior Training (also written by Fennell) should be added to Dov’s list.
Oh, I doubt Krista is interested in anime / manga (veteran anime tragic reporting in)…European Classical art / contemporary comics FTW ~ Krista…Although Krista wouldn’t criticise any of her friends or housemates developing an interest in anime (there’s plenty of other reasons to mock them).
Eons ago, I used to binge-browse my dad’s collection / library of Wooden Boat magazines (good times), but I don’t see any of my characters taking an overt interest in sailing boats or wood working.
Oooh, maybe Song of Achilles or Red, White & Royal Blue. Personally I hated RW&RB, but my book’s about a prince and a commoner getting together, so maybe they’d like it…? ( ^◡^)っ
From Gallows Humour
True…
has said they don’t like theatrics or drama, which cuts out plays and most YA. But I could see them enjoying a hard scifi book. Like Andy Weir’s work.
Puppet…
fantasy fan, I bet. Really big on escapism, with found family tropes, and probably enjoys YA or MG the most because the younger characters take it back to before it’s accident and the apocalypse. So… Narnia, Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Deltora Quest.
Suni…
Adult romance but i don’t read that so i can’t say what specifically. And probably classics, especially ones involving travel or animals like Black Beauty and Swiss Family Robinson.
Kiari…
has vision problems so doesn’t read much on her own but her mom (Suni) would read her lots of MG animal fantasy a la Misty of Chincoteague, Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH, and Mice of the Herring Bone. She might even succumb to Warrior Cats and just skip the gory bits.
Cal…
is a textbooks guy
Mu…
doesn’t read (not to be mistaken with he can’t read, he can). except i could see him liking that graphic novel series about the mice who are knights.
Eliza…
doesn’t read, would use books as tinder to commit arson.
in current WIP
Sanne…
Would read Nina LaCour, hands down. Contemporary YA and NA seems up her alley, with a splash of biographies of famous music and ballet figures.
Seonne…
is a historical fiction girlie but spends most of her time on magic research; magic academic journals, textbooks, old lore, ect.
Riker…
would like some classics, but not all of them. They’ve canonically read a lot of vampire fiction, including Twilight (which, as a vampire, they disdain). I think they have the patience to enjoy some longwinded authors like Tolkien.
and Star Trek novels, begrudgingly.
Ivar…
likes explosions! and zombies. The Rains, Hellraisers, The Walking Dead graphic novels.
Xiu Ying…
probably a bit of folklore but mostly Chinese fiction, which I’m not familiar enough with to name.
Wesley reads Star Trek novels. I’m only adding him because he makes Riker read them. And he named Riker, and Riker’s cat Picard.
Hmm…She might like Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce, The Princesses of Bamarre by Gail Carson Levine, and she might like True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle by Avi. Might also enjoy the Garth Nix Abhorsen series.
Ah, interesting. So a bit dark and dystopian. Philosophical… Might also enjoy Perdido Street Station by China Mieville then.
Think he’d also enjoy The Invisible Man?
There’s this hyped book called Legends and Lattes. Not sure how much food is in it but maybe he’ll like it? I heard it was cozy fantasy.
Interesting. Any particular type of people? Historical famous figures, travelers, actors, doctors, etc., …what kind of people you think he’d be interested in?
I guess you have read a lot Is there anything you’re reading now?
lol, Krista XD
Interesting niche there…I immediately thought of a character of mine who would enjoy those XD I used to have a character that was a craftsman who dreamed of traveling on a boat across the sea with his father and he would certainly be interested in modern wood working and boats “Used to” because his story is so cringe, it will never see the light of day
Or they might get a kick out of it?
I have Red, White & Royal Blue in my TBR despite hearing the polarizing reviews on it. It just sounds like a fun time
Speaking of fantasy LGBT romance, do you and your characters happen to have any recommendations? I don’t usually read romance but lately I’m feeling for some fun, cute, and light fantasy.
You think Puppet would enjoy the Warriors cats series?
Narnia is a good choice for found family tropes. Especially The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, in my opinion.
Ah, that’s sweet
What kind of textbooks?
I’ve never heard of this Is it popular?
lol XD
What era or country setting do you think she would most likely enjoy reading?
Okay, I see the naming theme here The cat’s name isn’t Spot, huh?
Cat Picard. Almost sounds like Captain Picard.
That’s fun
So, he only reads Star Trek novels…I bet the spines are broken because he loves them that much. How into Star Trek is he? Has he tried to learn Klingon?
hmmm, interesting question. I do kind of see it being a Warrior Cats kid and then re-reading for nostalgia. But I don’t think it would pick up the series on its own as an adult.
microbiology and adjacent studies. and probably some more apocalypse-practical stuff like mechanics.
I dunno, it’s something the library in my hometown had
really old stuff like Gilgamesh and Beowulf. Which I guess are technically myths and not historical fiction. and then probably a setting like Ireland, far enough back that they use swords and not guns.
nah not Spot, i wanted the Star Trek naming scheme to be obvious, to prevent people from thinking I fell into a cliche edgy badboy vampire naming scheme. Even tho that’s 100% what happened and i just added that trekkie stuff afterwards.
Wesley is also a Star Trek name, and that was also unintentional, but I’m glad it’s there
he’s read the vampire stuff, too. but that’s just material available for everyone in Anechrona. He probably collects a lot, and re-watches the shows, and yes learned Klingon lol.
pls imagine a 200 y/o cowboy speaking Klingon.
Ivan would be interested in people who shaped history and changed the world.
So, historical figures and prolific icons in business, politics, and things of that nature.
Have you read The House in the Cerulean Sea ? It’s the only LGBT fantasy romance I can think of offhand that’s fun, cute, and light. It’s adorable! (ღ˘ᴗ˘ღ)
That’s good to know! I have it in my TBR actually
