An Update About My Cat...

So I haven’t talked a whole lot about either of my cats but I have mentioned them, Izzy (turned 9 recently) and Toby (I think around 2). I mentioned in another thread, a few days ago, that I was worried about one of them (that being Izzy). She wasn’t eating and she wouldn’t put weight on one of her legs. My parents took her to the vet, who did tests, and we just got the results back, and found out she has bone cancer.

They said they could amputate and potentially do chemotherapy, which combined would give her 1-4 more years, while amputation alone would give her 3-5 months.

Unfortunately, we can’t afford both the amputation and chemotherapy, so they’re going to amputate without the chemo.

This was honestly really hard for me to type out, and I was debating not making this topic, but I could use some encouragement right now.

Awww, this is so sad! I don’t know what to say, but I’m so sorry for you and especially for your poor kitty. We have one to four cats, depending on how you regard strays who live on our front porch, so I know how it feels to love felines.

Gosh, I hope the rest of Izzy’s life is pleasant and happy despite the cancer. Can they give her pain medication so she at least doesn’t have to suffer much pain?

*hugs*

Thank you.

And they said the amputation should get rid of most of the pain, even without the chemo.

Edit: Apparently I can’t read :sob: they prescribed medicine for after the surgery that we can use for about a month.

Bone cancer is lethal even in humans.

I hope that Izzy is able to live as long as she can without pain. My nana’s cat died due to heart complications a few years ago, I cannot imagine the pain of losing your own cat.

Poor Izzy :sob:

I’m sorry for what Izzy, you, and your family are going through right now. That’s got to be really rough to see and deal with.

I was debating whether or not to say this, but I thought it might give you some hope so I’ve decided to. My roommates and I used to have a three-legged dog. He got around pretty well! I’ve got my fingers crossed that Izzy will adapt to it well! Cats are very intelligent and good at adapting in general!

Thank you.

And yeah, one of my friends when I was in high school had a three legged cat.

Hey everyone,

This is hard to say, but I wanted to let you all know that, unfortunately, Izzy had to be put down this morning.

The vet was able to home here to do it, so she was as comfortable as possible for it.

I really need some encouragement right now.

My condolences to you.

I’m sorry that happened to you. Think about the fact that Izzy had such a wonderful person like you in their life. I’m sure you will always cherish those times with Izzy, that’s your baby.

If you have other fur babies, give them so much love and compassion the same way you gave Izzy.

Give your other cats some love, seek out supportive family and/or friends, allow the healing process to take its stride. You just lost an important pet in your life, yet Izzy doesn’t want you to stay too sad.

Just know you probably won’t find another Izzy, but you’ll be able to find another precious baby.

I am so sorry if what I say makes no sense. I am truly sorry for that, you can ignore me if nothing makes sense.

And yeah, I’ll do all that, including giving Toby love to help him, too.

Poor Izzy! But from the way you talk about her I can tell she was well-loved and had a good life. I think you did the right thing. Cancer’s pretty painful from what I’ve heard, but at least she got an extra three months after the diagnosis. You need to take care of yourself now and do what you need to in order to properly mourn her loss. Losing a pet is significant, so don’t listen to those who tell you to just snap out of it or whatever. I know other people try to help by downplaying the loss of pets, but personally I hate it when they do that to me. I always need time to really grieve, so take time for yourself. Pamper and baby yourself for awhile. ( -.-)\(^◡^ )

Thank you.

Yeah, it’s always hard every time, and I’ll do those things in the last two sentences.

I’m sorry to hear that :<

She was a wonderful cat, but this was the right thing to do (even if you might not feel that way right now) as she would have suffered otherwise. She would have appreciated your decision and would want you to take care of yourself and work towards healing.

I hope the coming days get easier for you soon, but do not feel that you have to rush through being sad. Pets are family, and they aren’t just something to forget about or get over, the grieving is a whole process and you are valid in being sad and working through it :people_hugging:

We’re here for you!
