Any idea if this sounds good?

My original idea was that I would have a modest size party of like 8 characters or more but am now realizing that i don’t need that many so i have dropped the count down to 4. I’m Writing a traditional fantasy novel and would like to know if I should change anything before i start. My first character is Chax, and he is a Lizardfolk with a long bloodline but he gets banished and is seeking readmittance (forgot how to spell). next is Casellia, she’s a sorceress but she doesn’t have control of her magic yet because it only works if she needs it to stay safe, she was thrown out after being labeled a “witch” and is now trying to learn to control the magic. next is Alyx, she’s a changeling and after her home was invaded by the king, she was captured and bargained for her freedom. she got freedom in exchange for a “tax” that will never be paid off, she eventually revolts with the party.

By “party” you mean a dinner party or something? Four or 8 would be fine for some kind of sit down party, but would be a bit too few for a regular party imho. I don’t see anything wrong with anything you wrote. Sounds great! (*＾-‘) 乃

I think they mean like an adventuring party. The party is the group, it’s not like a celebration.

I think 4 or 5 is a good number for that sort of thing, 8 might be too hard to keep track of everyone and give them all equal attention in the story, so lowering it was definitely a good idea.

I was also wondering if I should do anything extreme with their backgrounds. ie: one of them has a younger sibling who was taken by Chax during a mission and now they hate each other.

Well, four is a good starting point I guess. However, you will find that as your tale moves forward you will meet and find that other characters will indeed become folk that you will end up liking very much. In time you will find that you have added them to your main cast of leading characters (This has happened to me in each of my stories).

But yeah, four to five will be a good starting point.
