Apartment Hunting!!!

So, I am working with people from an organization that helps people with mental and/or developmental disabilities.

At the moment, I have some of what I need, not enough. I am going look at two apartments tomorrow. I am both excited and nervous.

I don’t know out of the two which will work, because both are great places to live.

I just want to know things about living alone and whatever else, because this is a new thing for me.

Thoughts and feelings?

NOTE:

Originally, I was going to look at four apartments, I might do that or I might just do two only.

I did have four options that I really like. So, I need to get to bed at a good time so that I am prepared to see the apartments.

Oooh, that’s so awesome that you live in a state that has stuff like that! Florida’s painfully red, so we can’t have nice things. Not even books. ˓(ˊᘩˋ⋆)

Thanks!

Yikes for Florida!

I would ask you some advice, but I don’t know. Do you think you can toss a little suggestion?

I mean I know you live with your parents, yet I can have some options.

I got options for where to live, they are just really good options, unfortunately. LOL!

I think I am a professional live-aloner  do you have any specific questions?

I used to live alone before the pandemic, but when it broke out my mom got worried about me and asked me to move in with them until it was over. Now they don’t want me to move out, and they’re planning to sell that other house. It was my grandmother’s, and I moved into it after she died.

Things to keep in mind when apartment hunting: is it near a shopping center or supermarket? You’ll need to buy food, so you don’t want to have to travel too far for that. Is it in an area generally considered free of crime?

This is more towards the four options which are all good in their own way.

It’s not the rent, it’s more so what the apartments are bringing to the table in terms of features and anything else.

I need to choose four, but the problem is which is the most important of the four.

Another question is decorating.

I need a sort of design theme? Don’t know what though.

Yeah, these questions are a I-have-to-decide-for-myself-thing, now that I am seeing it.

Yes.

I know two are near one, not sure about the other two options.

By the way, there are four options.

Size vs cost: it’s not usually worth less space to pay more, unless it’s extremely close to everything you need to reach.

If all are in walking distance, bigger does matter more, but not at the cost of blowing your budget.

Ask for options in decorating, so that you know if they care if you paint or not.

Living alone can be a bit weird at first (mainly because it’s so quiet). If you’re not already, you’ll have to get used to doing chores for yourself, cooking for yourself and keeping yourself entertained. As for the actual apartments, that’ll come down to what you want out of one. Personally, I’d recommend one with an elevator if you’re not living on the first floor (I don’t recommend being on the first floor; easier for thieves), but I’m biased because I had to climb stairs to the top floor at my old place :joy: Make sure you’re near supermarkets and chemists. If your place doesn’t come with furniture, you will have to buy some. Same goes for basic kitchen and bathroom stuff. If you can’t afford a fridge, get an ice box until you can. It’s small but it works. Worry about paint once you have money sorted. You’ll also have to check for damage (cracks, burns, exposed wires, water damage, etc) and make sure all the water stuff is working (eg one of the toilets in mine didn’t flush so had to get the land agent to fix that). Oh, and absolutely get an emergency battery pack or two and some candles. You’ll need them if there’s blackouts. Is everything electric, including the stove? Get a little emergency gas one for blackouts.

I know that’s a lot of stuff, but you really have to consider a lot when getting your own place

Honestly, there’s probably more that I just can’t remember right now

Can’t paint the apartment’s wall, nobody can.

The beauty about the program is that they work with me in paying the rent, so that I can pay my rent on time and not a lot.

The cost don’t matter, but the size and area does.

I am starting on January 13, I’ve been SUPER stressed this month.

I need to focus on myself, my mental and physical health, and my hobbies for the whole entirety of December and half of January.

I don’t blame you. There’s things I can’t do certain times of the day. Like I can’t write right now. I have 2 seperate kids programs playing and I’m about to lose it.
