Awkward reunion moments?

Another continuation of the other topic thread named Awkward First Meetings.

Only this one focuses on the characters who haven’t seen each other in a long time or whatever you consider a long time, finally meet each other and the reunion is awkward for them both. Do you have one or more of these moments in your story? It can be humorous, bittersweet, uncomfortable, exciting or whatever, but it more importantly has to be awkward.

My Turn:

The most awkward and uncomfortable reunion was between the Thornwood siblings, Hyde and Stephanie from Project Succession.

They haven’t seen each other since the death of their brother Faust, the death of their parents, their sister Lilith’s massive mental breakdown, and their older brother Mephisto’s descent into evilness.

Stephanie ends up slapping Hyde across the face then proceeds to choke the shit out of him while crying in rage over an incident that he never blamed her for, but at the same time he never confronted her about it. It also sucks because Hyde’s other son is Dietrich and he tried to murder his grandmother for misunderstandings and entitlement.

That is mine so far.

What’s yours? Thoughts and feelings?

NOTE: WE CAN HAVE AN ACTUAL CHAT ABOUT OUR MOMENTS AND ASK QUESTIONS TOO! I AM GOING TO DO THE VERY SAME AND MY BEST!!! DON’T BE ALARMED IF IT TAKES A BIT, BECAUSE I NEED TO BE IN A GOOD HEAD-SPACE FOR IT, BUT IT WILL HAPPEN. ASK OTHER QUESTIONS TOO, NOT JUST ME!!!

I know you should have at least some awkward reunions in your novel(s), right?

My most awkward reunion is between the formerly dead prince and one of his old school mates who last saw him when they were eleven years old.

☜(ˆ▿ˆc)

“You bloody bumbleheads!” Bartlewyce whispered loudly. “Are you trying to get caught?”

“What do you mean?”

“Don’t play stupid with me, Trymore. You think I don’t know this is the flipping prince?”

“Keep it down!”

“How did you know it was me?” Zephe asked. “You haven’t seen me in five years.”

Bartlewyce cocked his head. “You mean to say you didn’t recognize me the moment I boarded the coach?”

“Well, yes. But who else screams “Queen Hedwidga’s underpants!” every ten minutes like a buffoon?”

:joy:

LOL!

Which century era does your story take place in?

In the present day when they’re all 21, it’s 1745. (ღ˘ᴗ˘ღ)

Have you ever written something set in the 15th century or perhaps 19th century?

Just curious that’s all!

Nope, not those exact time periods. I’ve set a book in 1190, and another in 1907. And in one book there’s a subplot that takes place in ancient Rome. But those are the only historicals I’ve ever done. ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯

Ah, I see.

Anything you want to ask about mine in terms of their reunion?

Also, were Trymore and the Prince friends when they were younger or not really?

Actually the character’s name is Treymor, but Bartlewyce always calls him Trymore as an insult. (>‿◠):v:

And yes, Treymor and the prince were friends. In fact, Treymor had a crush on the prince. Treymor’s the first person the prince reveals himself to when he returns.

Sure! How were they separated? I mean, I know their parents and their brother die, and the other one becomes evil and their sister has a mental breakdown. But did some kind of catastrophe cause all this? And what brings them together again? What happens after that?

When that incident happened they were in their early to mid adult years. So, Stephanie took over the nation, Hyde left to get away from the trauma, Lilith was placed in an institution, Mephisto left his family going down a path of darkness, and Matilda disowned herself from the family and hasn’t looked back since. So, the siblings live elsewhere.

Mephisto and Faust both learn the truth behind the Succession Trials, why their family was split into three large branches, and things relating to the past. Mephisto wanted to fight back against the other branches, but desired Faust’s misting to pull it off. Much later the parents learned about it and soon Lilith, which shattered everything she knew and drove her insane.

Saying anything else are considered spoilers that I am not ready to reveal.

Hyde meets Stephanie to see his grand-niece Aeris and to confront his sister since his son Dietrich tried to assassinate her on the day of her coronation. After the talk, Stephanie and Hyde embrace again. All they needed was to tell each other none of them were at fault, since they secretly blamed themselves and each other.

Hyde blames his cowardice and uselessness, while Stephanie blames her inability to protect her family and to be more than the black sheep of the family.

Robin, Thorn, Dan, and Issac being reunited with Sage

So this is actually the most recent chapter in this story, that I finished earlier today (yeah, a lot happened since they found all the gems).

Basically, they all got ambushed while they were at the place they needed to take the gems, and they all ended up getting seperated after trying to fight the bad guy. Robin found Thorn first, then Dan, then Issac, then they all found Sage.

The reason it’s awkward is because Sage is possessed and tries to kill them, and they’re forced to fight her. Luckily, when they defeat her, she gets freed from being possessed, but it’s still pretty awkward. Especially because she was fully aware what was happening, just couldn’t stop herself.

Faramond and Teddy

Faramond and Teddy haven’t seen each other since they were both training to become the royal family’s guards. They became friends quickly during this, but while Faramond went on to be a guard, Teddy never finished his training. Teddy doesn’t have any hard feelings towards Faramond, but Faramond thinks he might be upset. He eventually tells Teddy this, and Teddy reassures him, but before that the way he’s acting makes Teddy think Faramond is upset at him.

Did Faramond and Teddy manage to patch things up a bit? Will they go back to being friends again?

Sage: So, yeah, I tried to kill you guys, but I hope we can still be friends, okay?

Robin, Thorn, Dan, and Issac: sweating No…no problem.

All jokes aside, have they gotten a bit better since then?

Yes, once Faramond explains he was worried about Teddy being upset, and Teddy reassures him, they’re able to get past the whole thing and be friends.

Yeah, Sage apologizes for what happened, and for worrying them, and they tell her it’s ok.

Sounds like a hell of a family reunion. What was the incident he didn’t blame her for but never confronted her about? I’m curious to know why it would cause such a fight if he didn’t blame her in the first place.

First I’ll give you a little bit of context. Alma is kidnapped by one of his creators and tortured about midway through the story. He ends up being essentially unconscious for a few months while they transfer his core proccessor into a new body because the old one is too damaged.

Anyways, when he wakes up, he’s reunited with his other creator (not the one that tortured him, the one that fixed him afterwards), but he doesn’t realize it’s been months and thinks he’s still being tortured. He freaks out and has to be comforted by his creator and a friend. Once he calms down, his creator asks if he thinks of her as a mother, because, surprise, he voiced his dreams while he was unconscious and referred to her as his mother in them, so she heard.

This is especially awkward because she very much does not think of herself as his mother before that point and would have probably gotten angry about it if he had called her mother before he had gone through all that trauma. Luckily, she has some pity on him after all he went through and doesn’t get outright angry when he admits that he does think of her as a mother. But she certainly has complicated and mixed feelings about it.

Hyde never blamed Stephanie in the death of Faust and their parents because given the situation, Mephisto was the one at fault when discovering the truth, which caused the family to shatter. Stephanie blames herself on that day for not intervening or at doing more to save her siblings and parents. Hyde never confronted her because he was scared and wasn’t sure if he could see his sister again. He blames himself for not having the courage to be a big brother and not stopping Mephisto.

After that Hyde and Stephanie haven’t spoken to each other since. She had to know if what happened was her fault because she should’ve done something, but couldn’t and Mephisto wanted to make sure it was, when it wasn’t

Revealing anymore will be spoilers and I am not doing that. Sorry.
