Caribbean Writers, Say Hi!

Just what the title says! Welcoming all folks from all west indian islands! :trinidad_tobago: :jamaica: :barbados: :bahamas: :antigua_barbuda: :dominica: :dominican_republic: :grenada: :cuba: :haiti: :st_kitts_nevis: :st_lucia: :st_vincent_grenadines::puerto_rico:

I’m a Trini, living in the UK, and in the 7-8 is years I’ve been writing on both Wattpad and Inkitt I’ve only met one other Caribbean writer.

It’d be super awesome just to meet and chat with other people whether you’re diaspora like me or, living in the west indies!

Where are you from?
What’s your favourite thing about your country?
And a little bit about you?

I’ll start:

  • I’m from Trinidad, (I was born and lived there, but my family had to move to the UK when I was 4)
  • My fave thing is SOCA… and it’s soca season!!! :dancer: Literally listening to a playlist rn
  • A little about me: I’m turning 22 soon, love reading, cooking, eating, anime and folklore/mythology. (I’m actually planning to write a short story collection featuring Caribbean Folklore, so having other writers who are a part of the culture to give feedback- if i ever get the will to start- would be pretty awesome!)

Hi, I’m not a Caribbean writer  But I would totally read that. I don’t know anything about the Caribbean area, much less folklore, and I love learning about different countries and cultures. So, when you write it, let me know

Where’s the Puerto Rican flag?

I must agree. Unless they’re not Carribean anymore, then I didn’t get the memo.

By the way, Puerto Rico is the closest you get these days to visiting Venezuela. It reminded my mom of Maracaibo.

Ah apologies, I knew I forgot a few but I counted thirteen flags so I was like… am I just confusing myself? I will add it! Admittedly, even though I’ve grown up in a Caribbean household a lot of thing there are a lot of thing I don’t know about the West indies. I’ve been at odds with myself trying to learn as much as I can, but also being in tune with where I live.

I recently have made a goal to learn all the Caribbean Islands but I haven’t gotten round to it yet, I probably know about 8/9 confidently.

Thats awesome! Honestly, the folklore is so different and widespread across the whole Caribbean that it’s proving to be difficult. A lot of the notes I’ve made so far are really just family stories, and then my own extra research which is proving to be very difficult.
