For me, it really depends from project to project. Sometimes itās a vibe and a genre that I want to dip my toes in and see how it would work if something was twisted the other way. Sometimes, itās a character. Sometimes itās a setting. Sometimes itāll be a magic system. Other times, more frequently, itās a mix - a character + one or two of the other elements. Like Iāll imagine one scene and then want to craft an entire book around it, so I get to plotting and then writing it.
How do you build a story from that? Like do you go about setting characters or a tension orā¦? Everytime Iāve tried to work from plotting around a theme itās been too abstract or too on the nose.

I donāt. Itās usually smth that comes with time. In truth, I donāt really write the story, it just kinda comes out of me like a fountain. I have this thing that I just kinda get slapped in the face with a fully fleshed out idea, and the issue is actually deconstructing it and getting to know it rather than creating something from scratch.
now that I think of it, probs related to my DID my headmates are usually so bored they just make ideas for random things for fun
id say itās actually harder than doing it from scratch because it looks complete without actuallly being that way

Whoaaaa, that sounds horrible to me! I come from a place where medical aid is easily accessible so long as you can pay for it, which 80-90% of the people are able to, and the ones that donāt just have a longer system, but still get aid in 2-3 days or at most a couple weeks, at good qualities. It sounds insane that healthcare can depend on something so arbritary!
