If you did want to get into J fashion as a bridge between modern and old, some of the higher end lolita stores don’t use synthetics. Metamorphose Temps de Fille uses a lot of cotton iirc and Angelic Pretty also has a store in France last I heard and they should still be using a lot of cotton and silk (though they are HARD sweet lolita, you may really dislike them). But, I also have been out of the lolita game for… a very long time, so the scene may have changed.
(Of course, these brands also come with a hefty pricetag compared to, say, Bodyline. But the second hand market is thriving)

I actually plan to sew a lot of it. The main issue would be getting my hands on a corset that fits me lol. The rest is either sewing, thrifting, or both.

I think the name for Ouji comes from Ouji-sama (Prince) and the style has a more princely vibe to it yk? It’s originally a male version of Lolita because it uses stylized pants and shorts instead of skirts, but I see the girlies and femmes wearing it too so it morphed into a gender-neutral direction over time.

Now that you mention it, natural fabrics were more common back then weren’t they? Cotton and linens in the summer, wool in the fall and winter or on mild days. Too bad a decent piece today costs an arm and a leg. High quality silk will cost your soul too

Huh. Well… maybe a little too far back, but around 480–323 BC, because I just love the look and feel of the Greek Chiton. Loose, flowly clothing is my favourite thing to wear.

Ahimsa silk is made by allowing the pupae to fully mature and escape instead of boiling them alive, but it is more expensive and the protein fibers are weaker than normal silk. I wish there were other non-violent ways of harvesting silk that still preserve the silkiness of it.
