I’ve read published books that I don’t understand until halfway through and make more sense on a second read through.
& I lowkey think this story I’m writing is a similar set up. Mixing present storylines with their past, then making it make sense on why you’re telling the reader later. I like the build up without everything being told to you straight away anyway, in the sense of a non-linear plot.
