Desert Desserts - Group Editing

I am a terrible pantser amd just have the rough begining middle and end usually fleshed and like some key twists and scenes I want in between as my characters usually derail plans anyway. But question for you. Do you usually write senetence for chaps as you go or do you have all chaps laid out ahead of time?

PS: Chapter 4 of Midnight Lotus is up… it got away from me. Chap 5 coming soon… shit gonna get crazy from here on out.

Please do not send chapters to those on Hiatus unless asked to do so. Members in a catch up status will stay there until asked to be removed or once it has been more than 60 days since their last response. Good Morning! Happy Sunday! I wasn’t able to get caught up last week, but this week I’m going to set some time aside earlier in the week and try to get a few stories done. <3 This week we lost a loved member, and we are sad to see her go, but we also gained a new member, so I’m excited to see where this new story takes us.

Excited to see you all in the stories, and hear about your weeks.

My process is this-
I have a little 5x8 inspo journal for each book. I will print out and paste in character inspo, mood, vibes, etc and jot down a little information if needed like age, characteristics, what town they live in, job, etc.
Then I outline, planning for 20 chapters. So I write down about a sentence for each chapter of the general scene I want to cover. I have 2 docs per book. One is a junk doc where I will stick any scenes I pre-write to copy and paste over and the other doc is the first draft where I set up the outline and then I go in and write.
Most of the time I add a few chapters though bc things expand as I write.

Oh no, I hope things don’t get too crazy!

The Siren’s Lullaby - Chtr 9 & 10 posted. I think I’m going to split this doc into 2 as it gets slow scrolling through if it’s too long , so this will be the end of this doc

Ohh thank you I will give that a whirl! I did that for Blood and Cinders but got lazy after. It’s prob the best idea to have a physical visual aid. I typically have seperate character and outline docs with google docs but just got scrivner and have been thinking of switching with all this AI stuff going on. Also seems like they have a good set up, just my little brain finds it hella confusing might need a tutorial lol XD Any thoughts or experience with it?

Hey all! Midnight Lotus chap 4 is up and working on 5 now. It’s like pulling teeth to write this one lol. I have a very busy week ahead with construction and office work so will try and bang out some chaps today but might have to play catch up the following week when I have some more down time.

Hope everyone has a lovely week and welcome aboard @Erida !! Let me know what you would like me to send and look forward to reading your story! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Hey!!! I am SO SO SORRY for the late reply.Send me all three of your stories! I’ll read them all!

Hey guys! I was thinking, would you like me to create a discord sever for you all!!! From there, we can talk about story ideas and do writing sprints together!

I’ve only used Google docs, but I’ve seen all the concerns about google scraping ideas for AI from docs and it’s disturbing. I did read supposedly they won’t do it if your docs are not public, but I am still leary about that. Sounds like a class action lawsuit waiting to happen. It’s a crappy thing to do. Hate all this AI stuff. Haven’t we learned anything from The Terminator??

Let me know what you think of Scrivner.

Hi Erida! I added you to my doc. Feel free to send yours on over tminx804@gmail.com

lol right? This is the matrix waiting to happen. lol I will keep you posted on my Scrivner journey. Old habits die hard but I’ma try!

No worries!!! Sounds good! I have shared! <3

I believe this was brought up to the group before. I am all for it but maybe put to a vote? If anyone else interested.

I think we were toying around with the idea when they started talking about closing this forum down. I’m not sure how or why the convo died though lol. I know we also kicked around Google Chat if I’m not mistaken, bc it was easier than discord.

I’m down for either! Very familiar with Discord as I have some other worting groups on there but also down for majority- what is easiest for everyone.

Halfley’s Updates.

Hello all!
First I would like to apologise for not editing any stories or commenting on what I like or don’t like. I have started an internship back in June and although it’s 3 days a week, it easily tires me out. It’s 4.5 hours, but still.

Second of all, reading on my laptop proves to be more difficult for my focus and eyes than I originally thought. And focusing on multiple stories at once, isn’t doing my ADHD any good. So I will pick one story at a time to read and “edit” or comment on. (please give me a short description of your story so I can choose which one to tackle first)

Third, please don’t expect any updated for ‘To Catch a Dream’. I have decided to take a different route, a different genre. Leaving romance for what it is as a main genre. I apologise to those who were interested in seeing where it’d go but, I have been away from the story for too long.

I have decided to tackle zombies. I know this may not be everyone’s cup of tea, so I’m taking my time planning this one and I’ll see if there’s an interest for editing, critiques, feedback, etc.
But, I’ll keep any details under wraps for the time being. That way I don’t rush myself. Rushing never seems to work well.

I have a 3 week vacay coming up. No specific travelling plans, so I’ll be able to focus on my zombie story. And perhaps, get chapter one out soon after. I have no idea how I’m going to pull this off. But I hope I’ll finish this one. Planning, will be the worst part though. Many have suggested to tackle the survivors first and build the zombies around them. To have it a them vs us kind of thing. But, I find it more difficult to figure out what kind of virus it is than figuring out the characters the story revolves around.

No need to apologize. Internships can be very tiring. I know mine was a lot! I would love to read a zombie story. I never tire of them.
My story is a horror story about a mermaid. Below is the blurb for it.
Vivian Bardot and her twin brothers inherit a house in the foggy seaside town of Storm’s Point. With Vivian struggling after a breakup and her brother’s deepening depression, they decide a fresh start would be a great idea. Except it’s not. The small town harbors a dark secret and Vivian finds her already fragile world unraveling when one of her brothers is involved in the death of a local and the other goes missing. When the old lore about a monster turns out to be true, Vivian must find a way to save herself and her family.
Good luck and if you need to bounce any ideas off us, we’re here!

Mermaid? Horror? The name Vivian Bardot? Yes please!!

And I’ll keep it mind. Right now, I’m struggling with the virus. It may be a mix between a fungal virus and a viral one. But we’ll see.
