Hmm, I guess figuring out what kind of zombies you want might be a good place to start. That might help you decide what kind of virus. Idk why but I imagine a fungus as something slow and meandering, so I’d think the zombies would be slow too. But I know they’re not portrayed that way on The Last of Us.

I was thinking of this:
An alien spore travels to Earth on a meteor or rocket or a sample of moonstone the astronauts bring with them. Somehow the spore thrives and grows into these beautiful mushrooms (they’re funghi so yeah. Don’t eat these mushroom). An organization interested and focused on keeping Mother Earth alive for as long as possible, discovers the mushrooms or funghi and starts experimenting. To see if it can help cure diseases or if it’s edible, etc. Due to a chemical reaction between a liquid chemical and the funghi, it releases spores in the air. Contaminating the laboratory and the people inside. At first it just seems a defense meganism from the funghi, simply not liking the chemical it came into contact with. But the reaction it causes in the human body is… well, the humans end up mutated. Having a reaction and changing into a zombie like creature. Feeding on uninfected humans. Of course the virus can be trasmited. Either it’s air born or can be transmited through a bite. The humans, if it’s air born, decide to build this huge tower. Where they live in. The rest of the population gets infected if they don’t make it to the Tower. Earth becomes uninhabitable until a certain point in time, but while being careful, humans still wear gasmasks outside. They still use an air filtering system inside the Tower.

OMG THAT SOUNDS SO COOL! Would be sweet if their feeding was like similar to a plant like they leech all the water out of your or spores attach on you and slowly turn you more like them. I think this is a really unique twist on zombies and you could push the bounds from the typical norm. <3 Excited to read!

That sound like a great idea. Sounds solid, like you have a viable plan for the story. I LOVE zombie stuff, but oddly enough haven’t written any myself. So I’d love to read this.
Thanks! rather early than never lol. I’ve been working on the Night of the Fog book too and I must say, it’s kind of refreshing to write “short stories” and then connect them together. No worries about the short story word counts lol

- Midnight Lotus- an egyptian fairytale retelling of the swan princess with magic, mystery, Gods and sexy Pharaohs

I’m still on pause to finish that damn first book! Two chapters to go, three max and I’m stalled! I know where I’m going, what to write about, but I feel stuck, as if I have too much content to start the second book (and they are going for a hell of a ride, sorry main characters)

Have you outlined it? Sometimes that really helps me to clarify what I want to go where.
Agreed watching a movie in your genre is a good way to get amped up. I- as weird as it sounds- take a hot shower and kinda marinate on where I am stuck and usually an idea will pop in my head or I’ll put a song that fits the mood of the scene and just play it on repeat like some weird hypnosis until words start to come. But I feel ya this most recent book is like pulling teeth to get it out of me.
