You mean…do I have any references to mythology or pop culture in my stories?
Between Roses is inspired by Lewis Carroll’s Alice books, so it does make reference to many things which Disney has not taken. Eryn says “You won’t miss me” and is reminded of a song about cups and wants to look it up to make sure, but there’s no internet. This is a reference to the cup song lyrics “you’re gonna miss me when I’m gone”.
Moving to The Last Princess of Atlia which heavily, heavily leaned on Greek Mythology especially with all the Oceanids and Pandora and Poseidon and the story of Atlantis and everything.
Here’s something more interesting: The Last Princess of Atlia also takes inspiration from Maori mythology and a whale rider myth. Whales are considered sacred. There was a book adapted into a movie called The Whale Rider where a girl has to prove she is worthy to become chief instead of the tradition of boys becoming chiefs. She can somehow hear whales or communicate with them. It’s a very touching story.
There is no whale riding in my story, but there is dolphin riding and Pandora has a special ability to speak with the ocean which she has to learn to use.
I only have that i’m referencing standard christian lore for Arftifice, Etheareal, where I also add in a bit of greek mythology for fun to explain where God came from.
also God is a woman.
and Satan too.
and they’re sisters raised by the earth and the sky.
According to her legend, Freyja is the Norse goddess of love, sex, fertility, fortune, war and clairvoyance (predicting the future). Freyja might also be the leader of the Valkyries, battle angels who guide the spirits of fallen warriors to Valhalla. A busy lass. Freyja’s husband in Norse mythology is Oor. He is either a separate deity or another version of Odin.
I haven’t drawn from any folklore or mythology for my novel. I use the historical Punic Wars, Antinous, and the founding of Baghdad as inspirations, all of which have mythological associations to some degree.
Just went through my artbreeder folder. Turns out I also have Angels, Archangels, Devils, Demons and Fallen Angels Completely forgot that those are also under “mythology/folklore”
