It pains me to say that it seems like Frostwriter is no more
So yesterday, I was at a weekly writers’ meetup where we’d write snippets based on prompts (among other things). I would often use Frostwriter to write out my snippets since it was simple and aesthetic. When I went to the site last night, however, this screen greeted me
I checked frostwriter.com to see if it worked. Nope
On the bright side, I do have the app on my phone, but it’s still tragic to see. I primarily use my laptop to write. There’ve been many nights where I’d pull up Frostwriter to help get over writer’s block, and its dark and beautiful backgrounds were also easy on my eyes.
So long, Frostwriter. It was nice knowing you

I remember that site. I used it a few times years ago.
Damn, I forgot about it till you mentioned it.
Well, that sucks.

So, after a little bit of Googling, I’ve found an alternative to Frost: Calmly. It has a paid desktop app—which I’m too broke for—but it does have a free site that functions similarly to Frost.
Calmly has less themes and no background music, but it makes up for it by having more ways to format your text
you can bold and italicize your text. Its default setting also adds spaces between paragraphs like Wattpad’s text editor. Oh, and speaking of which, copying and pasting text from Calmly to Wattpad and vice versa is way more seamless since the formatting is preserved! And it’s also way easier to write em dashes in Calmly.
There is no way to center-align or right-align your text, though.
There’s another alternative that’s more similar to Frost called Ommwriter, but it’s a paid app and I don’t have the money for that
For those who write on Macs, I think Frost might still be available on the App Store. I still have it on my iPhone and I heard it’s available as an app on Mac too.
