And because my memory of things I don’t pay attention to is hazy, it’s possible I did bring him up, but I don’t remember doing so.

The point is that people don’t bare everything that’s inside of them. First, we don’t recognize what’s inside us. Second, some things are minor influences. Third, people like some mental privacy. With those things intertwined, I expect a ton of things to be missed.
