I realized this as I am writing chapter 26 of my novel’s first book to realize that I will have to change the plot entirely, a bit. I am only in the first draft of the story, yet I am realizing this now. So, I am unsure if I should continue finishing up the last eight chapters or start the draft anew. The zero draft I managed to finish at over 115k, which is actually the first draft, but I was writing and getting a feel for the story. This draft I am working on now is technically the second draft, but I made it the first because the last draft I was just writing purely for hobby and taking it half seriously. This draft is also the same too, half-hobby purposes and half serious. Now, that is changing, the plot is changing. The characters are going to have to change anyway for me, though not that much. Still, there are things in this draft that could work for a whole draft in story. I will have to change it from Project Succession to something else more fitting.
The point is have anyone of you had to change your plot a little or a lot, before reaching the final draft? Whether you use outlines or not, how much have you changed to your plot and story overall? Was it worth it in the end?
NOTE: I am not upset by the changes I am making to the plot, I am relieved in a way to notice things a bit sooner.
I am wondering if I should finish chapter 26 and the rest of the eight chapters. I have to change the plot/story entirely, so at the point, is there even a point to keep going? I wrote things down, but I am only on the first draft, there will be changes later in the drafting stages till I am finally done.
Honestly, I don’t want to stop writing this story, knowing that I have to change the plot later. There are scenes and information that can still prove useful in the rewrites.
I just need to write it down in notes. I might have to take a longer break once I am finished with the first book to get my thoughts in order as best I can.
Kindle Vella is still going to happen, just not at the moment. It won’t be long, I won’t sweat nor should you. LOL!
UPDATE:
My love for Project Succession is mainly due to the fact that it is the first novel I finished and loved. When I wrote Project Succession, I didn’t have a goal, I just wrote strictly as a hobby only novel. Now, that I am getting serious with it, I don’t think I can see it as a book worthy to even publish. I still view it as a hobby thing. I have no exact place for it and my mind is all over the place on what to even do. I will always remember the feeling I had when I finished it at 115k that was an amazing feeling. Still, Project Succession was a fun little hobby and nothing more.
This might not make sense at all to most of you, I think Project Succession will not be a novel that I will ever publish anytime soon. I enjoyed writing it and all. I just need a small steady goal for myself, if the plan is to publish a novel and become a full-time author in the future. I might use Project Succession some day later on in life, not this time.
So, I might have to work on another story that I love dearly and has the potential to be a published book.
That is all I needed to share. As for finishing Project Succession’s chapter 26 to 35, I might just have to stop and focus on something else entirely.
I have Project DAWN that I can start or another idea for an unnamed novel set in Alagossia.
Don’t fret everyone! I am not giving up on Project Succession, just shelving it for a long while till I decide to return to it much later.
Sorry, everyone, I just wasted your time by making this thread.
I’d start the rewrite of those chapters now rather than finishing them with the old plot. Make the changes early and write with them in mind. Otherwise you’re doing unnecessary work by writing for the old plot that is just going to change anyways.
Haha, does the plot change? As a pantser, the plot changes while I’m writing the story never mind editing XD
Between Roses used to have a whole plotline of Ace of Hearts being a not-so-very-good villain and Cheshire Vaudeville also being a not-so-very-good villain and…I ditched both of them.
1000% yes. I like the story so, so much better now. It’s so much stronger.
Speaking of a plot changing during a draft, the plot of The Rat Girl is changing I like the original, so I’m keeping most of it, but also shaving a lot off.
I’ve told my followers on IG that I’m going to be working on Lunar Heart, Shadow Bound…but then I started editing The Rat Girl, and then sometimes editing Alive At Dawn and posting on Ream… And so, I had to tell them, sorry, no snippets from LHSB, but you’ll get updates from three different projects It’s the way things are.
Hmm. Overall, my plot doesn’t change. I change the order and might add a few things in / take a few things out but the storyline doesn’t really change that much
