I think a lot of my influences are either cartoons, anime, or manga. Basically everything I like has been an influence on me.
Short answer… everything. ![]()
Like you, I’m drawn to stories with a lot of world building and complex magic systems. And I try to do that in my own writing, but I often fear that I’m not quite there yet. Like, when I look at my novel, the world building is there… the magic system? Not so much. I tried to make it hard magic, but it reads off as soft magic, and I guess there’s nothing wrong with that because soft magic can be just as good, but I wanted my world to have an extra “oomph” to it. ![]()
SAME.
Nope. But I do have Shadow Magic, dark realms, photon monsters, a bit of ancient Egypt, magical artefacts, evil sorcerers trying to destroy the world for no apparent reason, the Light as a bad thing in some situations, etc
Since I usually dive into writing thinking “I’m gonna write whatever I wanna write, and we’ll just have to see how it goes”, I would answer “no” to your question.
But in hindsight, I have noticed what books have influenced me. They influence me unconsciously. Blue felines are my own. I didn’t read a book about blue cats and decided to make my own or anything. But the shadow creatures I have were influenced by the shadow creatures in Garth Nix’s series, The Seventh Tower. I liked the idea of some shadowy companion.
I like how you phrased this XD
I’m surprised you didn’t laugh out loud to yourself when you seen my comment.
I did a funny.
Yeahhhhhhh my dad pulls that one several times a day so I guess it’s lost on me now ![]()
