Just finished the second book in the Otherland series, it came down to the line between a 3 or a 4 star rating.

Much of the book seemed to be spent on the descriptions of the virtual environments. I felt it didn’t add much to the story since these environments felt like “throwaways”, but in the end I gave it a 4 stars because the overall concept is still interesting to me.

Anyone else who has read the Otherland series? Otherland - Wikipedia

I don’t think you should have given it 4 starts just for the concept, personally. Execution is everything, at least in my eyes. Will you read the next few?

I’ve never heard of this book series before, but yeah, cool concept! Sounds like the holodeck on Star Trek, where you can immerse yourself in either a pre-written virtual world like Sherlock Holmes, or create a world of your own, like one of the crew does, with troubling consequences. (♯^.^ღ)

Well, I am still enjoying it even if it draged on a bit, and I will absolutely finish the series

There are some parallells but this is much bigger than a holodeck “accident”, the question is how do they still allow holodecks on starships? :stuck_out_tongue:
