That would be difficult, yes. Various POVs, then, I take it?
Yeah, lemme show you a brief example:
Are they different enough to you?
LeAnn Rimes happens to be one of my favourite singers and this cracked me right up
Me tooooooo though
Why are your characters always such a mood?
Yes, they are very different and itâs highly amusing! Frankie is more realistic and down to earth, whereas Michael seems to have his head in the clouds a bit.
Thanks LOL thatâs what Iâm going for. Michael is more idealistic, quirky, and a dreamer type whoâs kinda awkwardly cute and Frankieâs realistic, down-to-earth, grumpy, and someone you definitely donât take home to your Momma after the first date
Perfect. As always, youâre writing very intriguing and interesting characters!
If we donât traumatize our characters, are we really writers?
Even in my novella series, which was meant to be more light hearted than Beyond Dark, I gave characters the traumatic background. You gotta.
True I hope these two enjoy the ride!
Depends on what way itâs traumatic and how it fits in with the story for me.
Michaelâs uncle Phil kinda took over looking after him and brought him up in the casino he owns, called Haven, and the Haven Syndicate for the hitmen; Frankie has a cop Dad, a Mom who has a good job, and a grandpa who doesnât like the Dad, but likes Frankie
Thatâs all I got so far.
I hope they do too!
TRUTH. It has to fit the character.
Good backgrounds for both!
My MC in the novella series, Martha, became a PI after deciding in her early 20s that police work wasnât for her- too many constrictions and restraints on how she could handle cases, so she became a private investigator so she could do things her way. She catches her husband cheating on her and leaves him in the first scene of the series. Martha grew up with an abusive stepdad but remains close with her mother, who got out of the relationship. Marthaâs best friend, Daisy, is a true crime content creator and together she and Martha begin taking on missing persons cases after Martha is hired by a family to find their daughter whoâs been missing for a decade.
Thanks
Good choice. Canât say I blame her. I would be the same way. Too many restraints are annoying.
OOF slaps him!
Sucks that she ended up in that relationship, but I am glad itâs out of it and Martha is still close with her mother.
True crime is big on Youtube, especially crime and make up channels for some reason. But itâs good that they take on a real life missing personâs case (well real life in the story context). That sounds interesting. Taking on real events.
I have been listening to a PI podcast, and the host goes through a lot of reasons why people become PIs and that is legitimately one reason. A police career just doesnât work for them but they still want to help people in that context.
RIGHT? I started the series as a way of venting about my own divorce.
Had to insert some of my own trauma, you know lol
Very true! Itâs something I would love to do - solve cold cases as a true crime content creator. Martha originally got hired by the family but Daisy offered to help get word out about the case and together they took it on to try and solve it. It sort of becomes the start of a thing they do together. Martha is an excellent investigator and researcher, Daisy shares the research skills but brings the social media skills to the table. So they make a great pair for this.
Sounds awesome! Do the two influence each other in any way? Does working on mystery books influence you in which true crimes to cover? And do the true crime stories influence your mystery books?
Iâve been doing pretty good, I think. Iâve been rewriting/editing a YA dark fantasy with a bipedal feline MC. I wanted to finish editing by the end of July, but thatâs not happening But Iâve come to a good point, probably halfway to the end of book one, where the MC leaves her home for the first time and goes out into the world to search for a moonstone to save her sister.
I fell asleep
Thatâs really interesting. I never really thought about that, but itâs a very logical career choice.
Interesting Once I started writing a character to get my frustrations about the music industry out.
hugs you
Yes. That would be really amazing. Yay! Teamwork! The research and investigation, meets the social awareness aspect. Love that.
Oof time feels like that sometimes. Iâm not bad all things considering. Went to a family wedding on the weekend and it was a lot of fun. Iâm sure Iâve mentioned that they are very⌠interesting people lol.
Oh, yes, both ways. I started the true crime blog as a way of organizing and writing about my book research, but itâs sort of become itâs own entity on Medium. I just document the ideas I want to use in my mystery books and I will use them eventually! I blog a lot about criminal psychology of female killers (as thatâs what my mystery books focus on) and since itâs not really written about or blogged about all that much, itâs become a nice niche to fill.
The story sounds interesting! I am partway through rewriting and editing book 2 in my series as well, hoping to finish it this year sometime. Itâs a long process, isnât it?
And there are so many frustrations in that industry. Oof.
Yes! I think they will make a great team. I think the brother of missing girl from book 1 may join them too, but I havenât decided yet.
As families tend to be I am going to my boyfriendâs sisterâs wedding this weekend and the family is also very interesting. It should be fun.
Donât even start me
Yay that sounds fun!
I have read many memoirs and books from artists both famous and not. Many blogs from up and coming artists. Itâs a tough industry that chews you up and spits you out. I have an idea, since I used to write a rock star series back in the day.
He becomes important later too
I agree. It is very tough.
Thatâs important.
