There is never enough Chaos! :eyes:

how so?

True, true, coding ensues much chaos

The light grey kinda blends into the background, so either just doing straight white or a darker color could work

Ooooh I’ll go fix that~

Edit: done.

oh lol, I just call it “basics” so that it’s easier for me to comprehend lol

Hehe, I feel like I’m still pretty much a beginner in coding XD

This seems fun, but I’m currently trying to focus on taking gd requests only, so I won’t be taking part much. :frowning: Coding’s a rabbit hole for me :joy: Good luck though!

Activity #2

Watermark:

When creating our own codes, it’s nice to leave a small mark on it, so that’s why this next coding activity is going to be creating your own watermark. Feel free to go to my resources post and grab some special character. Be sure to make it unique!

Examples:

⟪ coded by Aevyn ⟫

<span style="font-size: 10px; display: block; margin: 8px; font-family: copperplate; text-align: center; letter-spacing: 1px;"> ⟪ coded by Aevyn ⟫ </span>

Bonus:

If you already have one or are itching to do something extra, make a code answering these question (don’t forget to add your water mark;)

1. When/how did you get into coding?
2. Why do you code?
3. What are some struggles as a coder?

Code Example:

— coding questions —

1. when/how did you get into coding?

we used to have a coding program back in elementary called “code”, this was what got me into coding. Though, it did get a little boring and I didn’t like the type of code. After joining the forums and lurking in the coding 101, I found html fun and interesting.

2. why do you code?

it’s something for me to escape into and pass the time. I can do so many cool things with code, and that’s why I love doing it (plus, I can make things look pretty and aesthetic :relieved:).

3. what are some struggles as a coder?

i found it a little hard to understand the language in the beginning and my old codes kinda looked awful, but it eventually got easier (although I still barely understand it). Sometimes I miss a small things like a semi-colon or misspelling and the whole code would not work:’(

When/how did you get into coding?
I first got into coding when I was in eighth grade. We learned HTML as part of our ICT class, and the following year we dove more into HTML and CSS. For our practical exams one of our tasks was to code a website in HTML and CSS. I found it pretty fun and decided to use it outside of school. I have a pretty big imaginary world, so I used my HTML skills to code a website—complete with webpages—that acted as a wiki/database for the things in my imaginary world. That website isn’t available online, but rather in my flash drive. I did code less often after tenth grade because we no longer took it at school, and I lost the motivation to keep on coding. It all changed when I visited the Wattpad Writers forums, which I’ll get to in a moment.

Why do you code?
I code because it’s fun. Remember when I said that I used my coding skills to create a wiki/database for my imaginary world? I had the idea of using a bunch of notes or a Word document, but that would be less fun so I coded it instead. The process of coding it may be tough, but the end result is just way better.

The forums also drove me to practice coding more. When I saw all these people coding I tried to do the same, but quickly learned that I couldn’t use the same HTML tags I used in school. For example, I couldn’t change the background color, I couldn’t use the <p> style, and <center></center> was useless. People were doing amazing things with their code while I couldn’t figure out anything. After a while, I got sick and tired of not being able to code pretty things and started learning. Not gonna lie, I had never heard of <span> coding before the Wattpad Writers forums, so I taught myself that.

What are some struggles as a coder?
The struggles I had were looking for things that actually worked here, or the proper format. Like I said earlier, <span> coding was completely new to me, so learning how it works was one thing I struggled with.

It didn’t help that it was hard for me to find raw code. I remember scrolling down the coding test threads looking for raw code that I could use to practice, but instead I just saw the end results. I learn a lot by looking at examples, so the lack of raw code wasn’t helping. I would try searching on Google, but when I would paste the code here, it would not work.

Luckily I managed to find some raw code that I could practice with. I already had coding experience so understanding the language was no issue for me. I just needed more practice from there.

Ooh, this is super cute! And wow, I didn’t know you could code websites O.o

Trust me, they’re really basic :joy:

This is the actual exam paper that I took. It’s quite basic. We had to print out a bunch of evidence and highlight raw code, so for our practice we’d finish a ream of paper after every lesson.

Oh, that’s interesting, I wish my school had that, it would’ve been way more fun >.>

You know they recently removed the subject :joy:

Our ICT teacher was leaving because she switches jobs every ten years (that’s what I heard) and I think they want to focus more on computer science. A bit sad they removed it. That class is one of the reasons why I aced my first engineering course, because it was just Excel and mostly things I’ve already learned. Also the teacher is a rich Singaporean who literally gave real money as prizes and regularly bought snacks and food for us.

Like, I get computer science is a hot subject right now, but ICT is really useful too.
