It depends. I still have little faith in Wattpad after last year’s fiasco with the sneaky addition of taking the rights to the winner’s works, but if I resonate enough with one of the prompts, I’ll consider doing it.

I went a bit mad and wrote three stories last year.

If I do it this year, it’ll only be one and if I do the story I’m thinking of, it won’t do well. It’ll be a bit weird.

The ONC judging process is such a mystery that aiming for a certain result can only lead to heartache. Writing a story you’re happy with should always be the main goal (yes I’m getting sappy after almost losing my joy for writing after trying and failing at the Wattys last year)

My goal this year is to actually write a story that I can extend above 50k afterward because all my ONC stories so far have been so limited in scope (and ended at below 26k) and I don’t really want any more stories that aren’t eligible for the Wattys bobbing around on my profile

I didn’t have the energy for ONC last year, but I’ll give it a shot this year! I’ve got a very … strange story idea in mind. Hopefully I can make one of the prompts fit it. Good luck to everyone who will be participating!

But I loved the hype and the community during it. It was really fun to participate. So I might do it… depends on if I get any ideas from the prompts and if I get that internship or not. I’m supposed to know by the end of the day so we’ll see

I’m torn. I sort of do and sort of don’t want to join this year. I skipped last year and felt kind of sad about that. I was missing out. As much as I don’t need more projects, projects that were born out of ONC have been pretty cool.

ONC always comes around the worst timing for me, so I never participate. I also never do well when given prompts for a contest. Idk, I guess, the pressure gets to me and I do an extremely mediocre job. None of the stories I’ve written for contests I’m proud of

I might use the prompts and not do ONC.

This is my plan as well! There are like a 100 prompts, surely one can be made to fit, right? (I did do this last year, although I do think perhaps the first chapter reads a bit convoluted because of forcing the prompt in there but in the end it was shortlisted, so I guess it worked?)

I kinda would prefer to write a real life, non magical/speculative story, but I also have so many ideas that are fantasy, sci-fi, paranormal etc… Gonna let the prompts decide, I suppose!

I’ve done that the past couple of years, waiting to see if any of the prompts stirs something. I just fancy a change this year … plus it’d get this stupid, shouty idea out of my head. At last.

Unless there was a prompt in there in which I could use this one character that I’ve come up with years ago and still don’t have a story for. I tried to use him in ONC 2021 but that story evolved so much that he no longer resembled himself and so I changed his name and just resorted to letting him be a separate character (I used a side character’s name, lol).

Why not? Honestly, I don’t think it’s even such a bad thing to try a different story on the same character with the same name. I know that I have the same character in an abandoned historic mystery and in a fantasy story that I completed. ONC is all about experimenting.
