Pick a character from your story [Prompt 16: Hidden Genius]

I don’t think I can answer this one yet…

Freckles, from the fanfic I’ve been posting things from.

She thinks she’s powerful because the antagonist accepted her when she started to serve him. She thinks that she must be powerful if he would let her work for him.

Even after she switches sides, she thinks she’s powerful enough to fight him. She even thinks she could fight him alone if she wanted to, which obviously concerns her allies.

Yeah, I’m taking this as “Why are they too proud of themselves?”

There’s this villain named, Ann Kahl. She’s a doctor and a witch. She can use Soul Magic. She can use magic to look into souls, diagnose them, and cure them with ease. She also can take out souls, manipulate them, shape them, and even destroy them as she pleases. This alone allows her head to grow bigger. But something happened that allowed her to not only take out the souls but also absorb and give herself the powers of the souls she takes. This got to her head and went on a rampant, claiming dominion over other people.

But this newfound power may just be borrowed

Yay one I don’t actually have to think about :joy:

Amneris knows thinks she’s powerful because she has the power of a First Being (which is basically the highest rank in higher beings), as well as the power of The Weapon (one of the most powerful energy sources ever created).

Xix knows thinks she’s powerful because she also has the power of a First Being and the power of the Ancient Elements on her side. She’s just a lot more subtle about it :joy:

Interestingly, despite this, neither ever actually uses the full extent of their powers

Freyja Mendel: Observations and experiences.

  • Freyja’s first lessons with her companions include teaching her how to be gentle, and to be mindful of her strength. For example, Dov teaches Freyja how to shave him and, not to be outdone, Krista teaches Freyja how to wash and massage her. Well, Krista persuades Dov to share his massage knowledge with Freyja, using Krista as a practice dummy.

  • Sometimes Freyja’s companions / housemates joke about her hugs requiring health insurance. Freyja discovers only Dov can hug her without an underlying fear of crushed ribs. Freyja doesn’t mind too much, she soon learnt (or instinctively knew) Dov’s hugs are the most enjoyable, soothing and relaxing.

  • Before any physical training, and with Dov’s assistance, Freyja could lift and move an ornate oak bookcase (taller than Dov) filled with first-edition hardbacks…Her light reading wasn’t light…

  • Freyja discovers she has some abilities that are above those of her companions, or that her companions do not have (naturally). At first, Freyja is anxious about her heightened and unique abilities, fearful they might cause others to think she is strange or to hate her. But Dov and Krista tell Freyja to only focus on those who like her regardless (especially her companions and housemates), and not to worry about those who don’t.

Dov Shaul: Experiences (again)

  • While growing up on his parents’ cattle farm, Dov often protected his younger siblings from feral boars and wild cattle by standing between them and staring at the unruly animals. Better beastie deterrent than a 12-guage.

  • Dov played AFL in high school and the Army. Dov considered himself an average player at best, but he often had the most powerful kick on the field. No commentators’ / coaches’ box was safe.

  • Dov joined the Army Commandos after high school, and some hard-nosed instructors decided to put Dov’s group through a more intensive selection course (condensed training). When Dov graduated (just) from Commando training, he also received an advanced marksmanship (sniper) and a medium machine-gunner qualification. Dov wasn’t too bad with underwater (Clearance Diver / SEAL) work either, he just hated dealing with the Australian oceans…There’s a difference between bravery and foolishness…

  • While serving in Afghanistan, Dov often represented the Army in inter-Collation boxing and football matches. Dov won eight of his ten boxing bouts, against foreign SF members, and he never received lasting injuries. Note: Dov never considered himself the strongest or most talented SF member in his gathering (operations base), although his comrades would cite his name in any Top Five list. When an American Marine Captain awarded Dov a Bronze Star, Dov began to wonder if his Army friends had a point.

  • Combat experience proved a adrenaline-fueled Dov could rapid-fire an SR-25 (7.62mm sniper rifle) while crouched or standing with effective accuracy. Dov doing the same with an FN-MAG (7.62mm machine gun) didn’t have the same accuracy but, according to Dov, it had the desired result: convincing the remaining enemy to be elsewhere…and to leave Dov’s friends alone…

Leander is convinced his powers are a gift from the goddess and has killed enough people to know that gift can do some pretty scary stuff.

Caspian believes it’s because he was chosen to be the Ellwood lord and rid the world of darkness. So obviously being magical, muscly and reigning over all of Izel is his destiny. Meaning he must be the most powerful guy.

Eliza is pretty sure her only power is attracting problematic men because she ended up meeting a crazy necromancer and the lord of red flags in the same day.

Is there a cost for her when curing? Can she cure anything or are there some limits? Is the cure instant or does it take time to fully heal for some cases?

:eyes:

What would happen if they did, at the same time?

That sounds chaotic XD

I honestly don’t know but I’m like 90% sure they could destroy and/or recreate and/or fix all Creation :joy:
I call that particular incident . . . Books 4-6 but mostly 6

This reminds me of the Xee Lee Sequence lore.

One of the Xee Lee inventions is the GUT Drives. Basically fission reactors that create a contained, controllable, energy output roughly equal to the Big Bang. The GUT Drives can be miniaturized to power infantry laser weapons, they have a ‘battery life’ of 4,000,000 years, they can propel space ships to near-light speed and, when converted into a missile’s warhead, one (let’s say ICMB-sized) GUT missile could detonate a star.

And this is all I know of the Xee Lee Sequence lore.

Not really, just energy I guess. However, she can’t easily heal souls damaged by Holy Magic since Holy magic resists any other kind of magic. Her healing can be instant, but it can take a while. It depends on the severity of the damage. In her enhanced state, she can reattach a limb just with soul magic but it would take time and tremendous precision to do so.

Prompt 15: Who are the parents?
Take any character you want. Minor, main, or not even in the story. Tell me about their parents. Who are they? What are/were they like? How are they the same or different from their child?

Oh boy this is a fun question :joy: I’ll do biological parents to make answers easier for me

Amneris and Nakia’s mother is one of my main villains. She’s . . . not a good person and there’s a reason she doesn’t get a redemption arc. She was very abusive, tortured Amneris to force-activate her powers, extremely manipulative, kidnapped her granddaughter, attacked the Academy and murdered a lot of students and teachers, tried to destroy the world, got banished, but does eventually come back as a reluctant hero due to aligned goals with Amneris (but again, no redemption). ;-; Their father died of old age. Same deal for Leo and Nikki’s families.

Xix’s father is the main villain for the first two books and she has the same mother as Amneris and Nakia. She’s vastly different from them but gets a lot of heat because of the things her father did while king. General tyrant stuff. Apparently he was a good father before he went nuts from his power.

Jay’s parents are arseholes. King and Queen of a Fae nation at war with a Human nation. Jay was the Crown Prince until he “disappointed” his parents by rescuing a whole bunch of human hostages, freeing a whole bunch of Fae hostages in the process, and tried to end the war peacefully. His father is your general egotistic, spoiled, money-and-land-driven moron who exploits and uses everyone he can to get his way. His mother is, for lack of a better word, broken. Jay and one of his sisters (Kiane) and his youngest brother (Magus) tried to get her to leave but she was too far gone sadly.

Hathor and Horus are Amneris’ kids (not biological for Horus but it’s been many thousands of years so she might as well be). They’re similar to her in recklessness and general overreacting, but they’re quite different in ways they think and act. Hathor’s more understanding and kinder, but does struggle with her power as there are times she wants to help people but can’t. Horus is the leader of a super hero group. Enough said there :joy:

I haven’t fully developed families for Zoe, Carmin, Dan and Kayla so can’t answer for them. Colt’s parents died when he was a kid. Aaaaaand the rest haven’t been needed to be developed

The parents of Viper (the doberman from the story with Adder).

His mother is very similar to him, not being tough and being kind of nervous. His father is a bit more tough, but still a friendly dog. Like their son, both of them want to escape from Adder. When Viper does escape, he worries about his parents, and after Adder and the few Dobermans who support her leave to find him, his parents are concerned about him getting found.

Prompt 16: Hidden Genius
Do you have a character that is hiding their smarts for whatever reason? Why are they hiding their smarts? What are they secretly good at? Does anyone know about their smarts at all? What do they think will happen if anyone finds out?

OR

Do you have a character whose talent hasn’t been discovered yet? What is their talent and what do they think about it? What do they want to do in order to get noticed?

You can answer for both types if you have them, or pick one to answer.

Yay! An excuse to talk about Dak Phai!

Dak Phai is an employee at Yessei’s coffee place, and she’s currently enrolled at university and studying software engineering. She’s got a side-hobby in tinkering with electronics.

After Yessei goes missing, Dak Phai and Yessei’s sister, Yenansi, combine brains and brawn and set out to find her. She perfected her translation device to communicate with Yenansi, then she designs a device that can open portals to other Universes at any space and time using knowledge from Yessei. Both are uhh… critical inventions lol.

After the story, Yenansi, Dak Phai, and Yennei all go on their own 3-man quest to just… explore lol.

Dak Phai is a recent character so not super fleshed out but has a lot of potential lol.

I’ll do this one and the previous prompt ^.^

Prompt 15

I’ll take Tomas and Eila’s parents - Hector and Olivia ^.^

Appearance-wise, both share eye color with their dad (blue), and both parents have black hair, so no specific inheritance on that one. They do share their mom’s wavy hair more than their dad’s curlier one.

Personality-wise, Eila took after Hector’s outgoing nature for sure XD
Tomas is more reserved, like Olivia, but shares Hector’s interest in dragons and other animals (in a more scientific manner than Hector, though)

One difference is that Eila is more daring than her parents and brother, meaning she’d happily wander into a cave with giant spiders if it meant getting great photos :joy:

Prompt 16

Diego is open (sorta… overall he’s on the quiet side) about his knowledge and experience with the supernatural, since its his job.

What he does hide is his skill with alchemy – which in THfAS is chemistry with a touch of the supernatural – as it is practiced in his family. Since it involves using substances (blood, ectoplasm, teeth, etc.) from creatures like vampires, demons, and ghosts, it is… not something the general public would be very accepting of

Another good reason he hides this is because his family has a tendency to test the results on themselves, sometimes to horrific results as it happened to at least one family member
