I have so much planned for Project Succession that I haven’t written down as a reminder, but I strongly know what I need to do and that is to take a break. Ya girl is hardheaded and over does too much shit.
First of, I need to take an entire year off from Project Succession’s book 1, in terms of a break once I finish. I work super hard on the first book. The issue is doing what I said. I say a year because I want a long break from the first book, but what I really mean is that I want to only write down all the things that I need to take out/trash, change it/replace, and keep/it’s good. I only want to write things down for much, much later. I am not doing heavy editing until the year is up. While I am doing that, I am going to focus on the second book and what I need to do for that! I might make this book either a three or four book series. I am unsure at the moment, but it is going to be a novel series.
After book 1 is done and is completed, I will just write things down, push the story away from a full year to take a long break to breathe, focus on book 2 a bit, thoroughly world build Alagossia as it is meant to be.
NOTE TO THOSE READING THIS: QUALESHIA NEEDS TO TAKE A SINGLE DAMN YEAR AWAY FROM BOOK ONE, EVEN WITH TAKING NOTES! DO NOT ARGUE WITH ME! YA GIRL NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THAT SHIT!!!
That is the goal for me! I feel it is doable, I can only hope.
Thoughts and feelings?
Another Note: This is what I am going to do AFTER, NOT DURING after I am done with book one. The first book is NOT done, but these are goals for myself, once it is done. I am still going to print it out then push it away for a full year, along with the notes. I will focus on the second book around that time.
Sounds like a great idea! Burnout won’t do you any good, and after a year you’ll be able to re-read it with fresh eyes and see any plot holes or other mistakes more clearly.
I want to make mine a three or four book series too, maybe even more, and I think I finally hit upon a possibility. For the longest time I couldn’t think of any way to stretch out the story beyond the first book, but I’ve decided to break the first book into two. In the first book, the crown is lost to a usurper. In the second, a civil war returns the lawful heir to the throne. In the third book, he goes on a diplomatic mission somewhere, although I haven’t decided just where yet. I think I’m going to leave the worldbuilding of this particular universe kind of loose so he could visit the steampunk wild west, or maybe the equivalent of Victorian England or Belle Époque France or ancient China…the entire history of Earth could exist simultaneously in this world. (>‿◠)
And that way I’ll never get tired of it. Sick of writing Regency romance? Then write a Western! Tired of historical fiction? Then write a fantasy crime novel! I’ll just have to link the plot to the main characters somehow.
So is Alagossia going to be a homogeneous world where everyone has similar technology, etc., or maybe something looser? ¯\_(ﭢ)_/¯
I don’t think working on the second book is a good idea until you are sure you are completely finished with the first. Taking a year long break from the first book is good so you can come back to it with fresh eyes for editing, but when you do edit, there are going to be some major changes you make that could make the entire second book, or at least parts of it, obsolete. Trust me, I’ve been tempted to do the same thing with my series, but if I had done that with the first draft, I would have writen the entire second book for nothing.
The technology on Alagossia is five to ten years more advanced than Earth. Magic and technology coexist with each other, because magic is in the air.
On Alagossia there are far too many countries with their own traditions, cultures, and political system, along with societal norms. There are also a bunch of race/ethnic groups too.
That is why I need to really focus on that bit by bit, while trying to not overdo things.
