Polls For Fun

I always write jn Google docs (so I can access it from any device), but once it’s passed beta and is in the final stage of editing, I move it to Word so nobody else can look at it until it’s published. It just feels right that way.

Interesting.

So, I have found another person who uses both. LOL!

Yes! Both have their pros and cons. I like Google docs because it’s super easy to share and comment for my betas. But Word is best for the professional look and editing/formatting.

I use a really old plain text editor called Notetab Pro. It’s like an updated version of Notepad, but with tabs and a built-in scripting language for complex text parsing. I’ve scripted my own checks for common writing errors, grammar issues, syntax, etc, and even a one-click command to send either the full or selected text to an external TTS program and auto-play it.

Since it’s plain text I just use underscores as italics tags. I have another script for parsing this to HTML or whatever forum specific code I need.

Interesting. I’ve never heard of that.

The Notetab Pro, by the way.

It’s super old and was aimed at web design, which was why I had it in the first place. The scripting language is really useful but I think there are newer plain text apps that are probably more powerful these days. It’s just what I’m used to.

Ah, I see.

its spread out pretty equally between pencil and paper, google docs, and the notes app in my phone

When it comes to writing, which do you prefer and why?
Everyone has a different reason. So, what is your reason?

  • I only write in pure silence.
  • I can only write when there is some noise.
  • It really depends.

No music or intentional background noise. I don’t really notice or mind if there’s noise outside. So I guess I don’t need total silence, but I try to minimize it.

Imagine writing in a room where you can only hear the soft sound of your own heartbeat and nothing else…

That would be way too distracting and somehow louder than the idle hum of computer fans.

Nerve wracking, huh?

I am going to answer my own poll. For me it depends and it is a strange one to me at least. When I sometimes write, there is noise and other times there is silence. I like to write when I am “watching” anime or something to have the background noise. Other times there can be music that fits with the writing that I find off YouTube. I rarely listen to my or rather the music that I like as I am writing (I should change that immediately). Still, I am stuck in the middle of listening to noise and having there be silence.

So, all in all it really does depends with me.

I tend to write with my music playing, but if the lyrics get too distracting, I will switch to ambient/instrumental music, and if that is still too distracting, I will switch to silence. So I guess it just depends on my mood and how well I am able to focus.

Another depends just like me.

pure silence doesn’t exist.

Okay…so you prefer noise, correct?

Pen and paper for first draft, Word for second and final drafts. I use Google Docs for beta reading because it’s the easiest way to share and track suggested changes, but Word is my preferred app for writing and formatting.
