Apart from romance or fantasy what else do you think has a shot at winning the Wattys?
I don’t know mystery thrillers, I guess?
Far too much effort to plan.
This is what you want to do?
I have a story about two gay gang members but I dunno how well that’ll do in the Wattys lol
Dramedy?
A drama-comedy?
No idea. Dramedy and romance? Maybe. But mostly action.
That can work, if you want to go that route.
I don’t think it has anything at all to do with genre. A well-written, completed story with interesting characters, compelling internal conflict and an engaging plot in any genre will hook the readers and win the prize. You just have to hook them. So think about what hooks you into a story. (*^-‘) 乃
I’m sorry, but all of that is way too vague to hook anyone. You need to be specific, so the reader knows exactly what they’re getting. A real hook would be something more like this:
A Kansas farm girl hides in a house that gets sucked up into a cyclone, eventually landing on a witch wearing magic shoes, killing her instantly. The farm girl finds herself in a magical land of talking lions, scarecrows and tin men, but wants nothing more than to return to Kansas. The only person who can help her is a wizard who lives in a far off city made of emeralds, but to get there the farm girl, Dorothy, will have to cross a meadow of opium poppies and confront an evil witch, flying monkeys and demonic trees, with nothing to defend herself except the power of friendship and a pair of magic shoes.
I have three ideas want, want me to explain them all and you can tell me the most interesting?
Sure! (*^-‘) 乃
#3 sounds like it would be the most popular. It’s got supernatural paranormal stuff going on, crime fiction, murder mystery, betrayal and possible romance…? Not to mention trailer parks! All that seems to do well on Wattpad. (੭ˊᵕˋ)੭‧˚₊・*̥✧
I’ll give that one a go then.
Then go with that and add a full blown Horror element into the mix with grotesque imagery to disturb the mind…
I mean, why not, eh?
