Reading is important, but what about consuming other forms of media?

As a writer, reading fiction and even non-fiction is important. What about other forms of media as well? Like watching movies, television shows, musical plays, playing certain video games, reading comics, and more. Is it important to consume those forms of media just as much as reading fiction novels or non-fiction books?

What are your thoughts on that?

it really can help as u are more well rounded, espaically fighting if ur doing a combat scene or some other thing. the big thing to do it is so ur not burnt out but also its inspiration sometimes ull throw in a injoke here or there that people in ur audience will love

tldr; yes, it’s important to consume other and various types of media.

in a way, i think, all media has its own purpose. watching things (movies, TV shows) gives you a visual idea of how things can play out, video games highlight actionables, and when we talk about music, it’s all about how certain notes invoke certain emotions, so on and so forth. i’d say yes, definitely, that all forms of media are important; you learn to cross-bridge between them and it builds media literacy. of course, this depends on the variety of your media consumption, but still, these are all varying creative styles that really help with developing your own!

Living a full life is also important!

Exactly! Experiencing things second hand only takes you so far. It’s so important to get out into the world and experience things for yourself first hand through traveling and actually doing things. (*^-‘) 乃
